Hello all,

TTC for the second time. We were lucky the first and got preg straight away with my DD is 14 months old. I'm just wondering if continuing to breast feed might have an effect on getting pregnant again...
I know it can have a contraceptive effect when you're exclusively breastfeeding but I got my periods back at 6 weeks post partum and sort of assumed Id be fertile from then..but maybe the system doesn't quite snap back in the same way if you're still feeding ? We've only tried twice so I'm probably just overthinking but I'm not exactly a spring chicken so would love to think we could pregnant soonish..

Does anyone know or have experience of getting pregnant (or struggling to) while BF?

Many thanks ! Xx

Good to hear from you @MixedCouple especially as it's on my mind again as AF is due soon. Like you , I'd love a 2 - 2.5 age gap but haven't had any luck yet. I'm starting to feel a little sad about it in spite of myself!

It's the opposite for us, I've stopped her feeding in the day but can't even imagine stopping at night as she still wakes up several times a night to feed - and I don't believe it's for comfort, she seems to really need the nutrition.

Just to give an update from me, I stopped feeding and fell pregnant the next cycle, I’m only 6 weeks but all seems to be going well. I was only trying for 3 cycles so can’t 100% say it was to do with breastfeeding so I wouldn’t want anyone to read that and think they have to stop breastfeeding as it could have happened either way.
my daughter also sleeps through the night now which she’d never done before but I very much think she was using me for comfort but she is older than your baby.

@SkyeJ90 how wonderful ! Congratulations 🎉 I I had a funny feeling you might say this. It's reassuring to hear that it took no time at all once you stopped feeding. Thanks for posting and hope it all goes really well x
