Long irregular periods and Soy Isoflavones...now what?..

Hi everybody, hoping somebody can offer some advice or let me know if they have had similar.

I have irregular & long periods and after TTC for 3 years I this month decided to try Soy Isoflavones after seeing a lot of positive outcomes. I don't believe I ovulate so thought it was worth a shot. I started spotting Friday 5th May and have today finally got no spotting or bleeding, so thats 2 weeks. I took Soy Isoflavones on:

Sun 7/8/9th May - 160mg (which I put down to CD 2/3/4)
Wed 10/11th May - 200mg (CD 5/6)

So because my AF has only just totally finished, do you think I could still ovulate at some point (if the SI work on me)? I will start OPK strips this afternoon

I also had a Hycosy Friday 12th May which the nurse agreed to still do even though there was blood there - my tubes were both clear apparently.

Gynocologist has basically said that me and dh will need IVF and have discharged dh as his SA was normal. We can't afford IVF and I have had 2 successful pregnancies (the last being 19 years ago) so we don't qualify for NHS help. So I have tried the Soy Isoflavones and am also open to trying Myo Inositol

Thank you to anybody who can advise/offer success stories x

an old post, but how did you get on? I’m literally in the same boat, no ovulation, long irregular period and just started SI

Khanny · 09/04/2024 21:08

Hi, I didn’t get the luck others have when taking soy isoflavones unfortunately. I definitely believe I don’t ovulate every month and am still praying for a miracle. I did try them again last month but am still waiting to ovulate and am on cycle day 38 x

Have you reached out to your doctor? maybe something else is wrong.. I used SI in the past, once ovulated cd-47, the next one cd-38, then I stopped hoping my body will work right, but no ovulation from jan till now.. just started SI again..

Sorry for the delayed response, yes we have been to the doctors, referred to the fertility clinic at the hospital, had blood tests and scans and then discharged after 2 appointments with no known reason for not conceiving. I have now made enquiries to a private clinic and will pay for the initial tests as the hospital never tested my AMH so I don't know if I have any eggs left and then take it from there but we can't afford to pay for IVF treatment. I keep saying I am praying this is our year but the longer it goes on the older I get and I am 43.

Today is CD52 and yesterday I got quite a lot of shooting pains on my right side (fallopian tube area) with a dull crampy ovulation type feeling which I still have today but who knows if I will ovulate or if it just my body that keeps trying and failing. I even paid £200 for a Tempdrop wearable arm thermometer that sits under your arm whilst you sleep for more consistent BBT tracking as I am a bit of a naff sleeper some nights but so far there is nothing to suggest ovulation so that will be another waste of money x

So sorry, honestly it’s frustrating when our bodies decide not to respond as we expect it to.. I have also booked an appointment with a private clinic. Will have AMH test next week..
I also get the one sided dull sensation and most times do not end up ovulating unfortunately, may be different for you, but I feel my body tries to ovulate but cannot.

i did try soy this circle, it’s cd-22 and no signs of ovulation.. I had to use progesterone cream to forcefully end last cycle.. sadly, I don’t have hopes of ovulating this cycle, hence my decision of going privately..

NHS IS TAKING almost 1year! Was referred last year Aug, and investigation has only just started..

I'm hoping that next cycle will be medicated.. fingers crossed.

in summary, soy didn’t work for me😔

No don't be sorry, I like the information!

I had confirmation that the private clinic of choice had received my referral on 15/04 and that the doctors were triaging my referral so I am hoping to hear from them in the next week.

I don't think my twinges will come to anything, why would they after 4 years of nothing...I think my body tries to ovulate but fails too. I would love to be able to have a scan when I get these aches to see what is actually happening! I am also hoping for a medicated ovulation assistance.

I last used the SI when I last had a cycle which was 1st March and I think I took them on days 2-6 but still nothing. I have consistently added and taken Co-q10 for the last 3 months along side my usual Vitamin D and Folic acid.

Good luck to you x
