Do ovulation tests even work?

I've been ovulation testing for the last ten days, and so far haven't seen hide nor hare of a second line. I must have ovulated by now, but still nothing showing up. What are people's experiences of these tests? Should I just give up?

I think I give up with these, still only a faded line, and surely it should be at least getting darker. I can't keep on bd'ing like this 'just in case', it will be the death of me, or my dh - even he is a bit tired of it now.

I have used ovulation test kits loads, as I conceived dd by donor insemination and am now trying for 2nd. I use Ov kits every month to know when to go in to clinic for insemination.

I just wanted to share with you that I found the brand of test kit to be key. The Boots own brand kept giving me false positives, so I always use Clearblue now. I have a (normally) 30 day cycle, and find that I ovulate on day 19. However, as I have occasionally had cycles as short as 26 days, I start testing from about day 12. Costs a fortune! (And that's before the £400 a month for DI....)
