Child has chicken pox, would you skip ttc this cycle?

We are ttc and on CD6 today, dc has chicken pox, i'm now torn between wondering is it ok to still ttc when the time comes this month or waiting another month because I feel I don't want to skip a month and is it even a risk at this stage

Any advice or experience welcome 🙂

Why is it a risk?

dementedpixie · 10/05/2023 15:11

Have you had chickenpox before?
If you have had it then I dont see how there would be a risk

Ladyinpink1 · 10/05/2023 15:25

Yes I had it as a child.

I think that being in contact with someone with chicken pox in pregnancy can be dangerous because can lead to fetus developing it and cause birth defects etc

And because it can take weeks after catching it to "get it" I thought if I conceived this cycle could it cause issues or would it be ok this early on.

No, it's catching chickenpox in pregnancy that is dangerous. If you've already had it this is very unlikely.

It’s generally 14 days on the nose, if that’s any help. (Can be 7-21 days I think, but it’s unusual to be at the extreme.)

I think you’d be ok.

It would only be dangerous to the baby if you caught chicken pox while pregnant. If you've had it before you're unlikely to catch it again.

I remembered that it was dangerous, but I didn't realise the mother would have to get it first for that to be the case.

Although its unlikely I would even fall preg this month, I just wanted to be safe rather than sorry so thank you for all of your replies.
We will get on with ttc again this month 🙂
