Husband is on testosterone injections, can I still get pregnant?

After baby #1, husband started TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) injections due to low testosterone.

We just started TTC for bay #2. He said the doctor said we can still get pregnant while he takes the injections but the sperm count is just lower.

I just came across an article saying men trying to have biological children shouldn't be on TRT at the time of conception.

So now I feel sad that we are trying in vain. Did he misunderstand the doctor and we should wait till he's done?

Has anyone been in this situation and got pregnant?

Hi Vix,
I know this is an old thread, but just on the off chance, I am posting as we are in exactly the same situation. I heard it just lowers sperm count, which I wasn’t too worried about as plenty of people still conceive with a lower count, but then I read some men go to net zero. It’s very sad to read, I can completely relate to how your feeling. Hope it all worked out for you in the end, or you got some good advice and things to work on. We are going to go for sperm analysis ahead of trying for #3, so we know what’s going on for certain. My husband won’t come off TRT as he was on the floor without it and depressed. I get that, just feeling emotional.

DH and I took part in trials for the male pill, over 30 years ago. It did indeed reduce his sperm count to zero - and it was a weekly injection of testosterone. I have no idea of the dosage involved, though.

You can take another hormone - can't remember the name of it - which can prevent the sperm count being lower. We aren't TTC yet but he is on testerone and planning on TTC in the next year or so, so his doctor prescribed this as an addition.

Thanks SO much for getting back both. Is that other suppplement HCG? My husband has been taking that alongside the testosterone as he was told it can help preserve some of the sperm. I will come back on after the test to update you, in case this information is helpful to anyone else x
