Chances of conceiving before period is due

Hi currently Ttc number 4 and I’m 44 years old. We have only recently started ttc. Not tracking ovulation and trying to have a relaxed approach. My period is due in about a week and I’m wondering if there is a chance I could conceive before it arrives. It’s been 12 years since I was last pregnant.

No, I don't think so. I fell pregnant three times very easily (first/second time of trying) in my mid-late 30s. I'm also 44. We have more or less stopped using contraception, not because we really wanted another child (though a couple of years ago would have been quite keen, despite impracticality) but because I couldn't take the combined pill any more and didn't want to use condoms all the time. To start with we were somewhat careful during ovulation week (ie used condoms only then), but now don't even bother with that. Not a sniff of a pregnancy in eighteen months. I think most 44 year old women are unable to get pregnant, even if they were very fertile in the past. Hopefully you will be different, but I think you'll find it a very different proposition from ten years ago.

It just depends when you ovulate. I used the rhythm method for years (to avoid getting pregnant) and had sex the day before my period was due. The result of that is now 14 weeks old and asleep next to me! I know for a fact that's when she was conceived as I hadn't had sex for months before then. So it can happen but is rare I think. I must have ovulated really late that month or something.

No it never came. I was due my period on the Monday, had sex on the Sunday night. Came home from my holiday a few days later (Wednesday) and tested positive for covid. So I presumed the covid/ holiday had interrupted my period. Plus was getting cramps so just thought I'd be coming on. But never did so did a test maybe 10 days/ 2 weeks later not expecting it to at all be positive and it was a dye stealer which I was really surprised about. She's now nearly 11 months!

Yes, I was on the pill for years. stopped and 3 days later was pregnant. I never had a bleed and the doctors were quite frustrated they couldnt date the pregnancy from date of last period.

Normally you ovulate around 14daus prior to your period. After ovulation chances of conceiving are incredibly low

I think it really depends on your cycle that month and what happens when. We can't know to be honest as you can release 2 eggs a month, some people become pregnant twice in a month and have non identical twins. You never know what's going on really.
As you're 44 and fertility does decline, I'd be inclined to DTD regularly. I used to use a fertility microscope and DTD regularly and fell pregnant at 39 - took 2
Years but we got there
Good luck!
