Hello this is my first time posting or using mumsnet, Feeling so alone and confused. The nurse has said the NHS can’t help because of my FSH and she has said to bear in mind that if I go private it will be a reduced success rate. So now I’m so unsure as it’s a lot of money but we so want a family. I don’t know if we’re clutching at straws. Has any one had any experience with these kind of numbers having IVF and going privately?
Thanks ahead x

Hello. I saw your post and couldn’t help responding. How long have you been TTC and have you had other tests? (Progesterone to check ovulation and a follicle count)
I had an FSH of 12.6 (AMH 6.2 and AFC 12) when experiencing secondary infertility. It was a really rough couple of years but I got there in the end (just before I was about to do IVF) on my last round of letrozole plus progesterone after ovulation (I appear to have a luteal phase defect). My boy is now just about to turn 1.
I tell you that because I don’t think those numbers are disastrous on their own though it may make IVF more tricky (as you’ll likely get less eggs). Defo see a private clinic.

Thankyou so much for replying. Feeling like it’s an impossibility 😢 We’ve been trying for around a year and my partner also has low count, Low morphology and motility. I’ve had a progesterone which I believe came back ok then I’ve got an AFC scan soon. Which I’m terrified of. Just feel like with my results IVF doesn’t seem like it would work as there more than likely won’t be many eggs 😢 Hoping by going private that they may have other treatments. That’s so lovely that you got your boy bless you.

It’s definitely not impossible just based on your numbers. People get pregnant all the time with lower AMH and higher FSH. As long as you’re ovulating you can theoretically get pregnant. I would guess though that your numbers do maybe indicate a slightly lower egg reserve (though I’m not sure on your age, it could be totally normal!).
you probably need to tackle the male factor first and I don’t know much about that. I know lots of people recommend impryl on the supplement side for MFI. Good luck! Going private really helped us and made me feel more in control.

As a PP has said, don't count yourself out. I had AMH of 3.4, AFC of 2 and FSH of 24, but was still ovulating. It took a year but I conceived naturally.
I don't know anything about male factor unfortunately, hopefully others will come along with some advice.
But just wanted to let you know that your numbers don't mean game over. Good luck

Age is important, you may get less eggs but the younger you are the better quality they will be. Did they do the FSH test on the correct day (like day 2?) my amh was 5.4 don’t remember the fsh (it was higher than “normal”) and I have 2 kids now with ivf done over a year after that test.

@Kitte321 I’m 33. Thankyou so much for your advice. It just feels like there’s been no hope since getting the results and the nurse just didn’t seem positive at all when I said about going private, She just said there’s a reduced success rate so felt like she was saying nothing will work. He has been taking some supplements but will have a look at those. Really appreciate your advice Thankyou x

@Waterdropsdown Im 33, I did the test on day 3/4 as my period came in on a Friday and we can’t get blood tests over the weekend where I live. Did they tell you that you had reduced ovarian reserve? If you don’t mind me asking? Did you go private? I’m just worried it’s such a lot of money, I know it’s worth it. Just concerned with it not working because of my numbers. Maybe will know more when I have the AFC scan and taking to the private clinic.
thanks for the advice and for replying x

That’s great age is on your side. You might not get heaps of eggs in ivf but they should be good quality. Yes went private had first round on nhs actually and think I did get told reduced ovarian reserve. I was 32 when I got my test done got pregnant in a frozen cycle after round 2 (the private one).

Situaciones · 11/03/2023 09:34

I got pregnant with an amh of 3 naturally and I was 41. Definitely possible.

@Waterdropsdown Trying not to get my hopes up too much, Will see what happens with the consultation and AFC. I didn’t know if having two rounds would make it more effective the second time if that makes sense as think of by chance we could have IVF think we could only afford one. Will see what they say. Thankyou so much for sharing and for your advice x
