TTC for 15 months, aged 39 and its finally happened

I'm typing this to share a positive story because I know how hard it is to keep the hope. I have been TTC for 15 months, aged 38/39 had investigations and everything came back fine even my DP's tests. I had the HyCoSy treatment done in early December 2022 and heard that it boasted fertility for 3 months afterwards. It was cycle 3 and my period is due 1st March and I just felt different this week. Had some very light bleeding on Friday, very scary dreams, feeling very bloated. I have not had an alcoholic drink in weeks and I'm invited to an event tomorrow were alcohol will be on offer and I had a spare test and thought why not try it to make sure and put my mind at ease. It my surprise and shock its was positive this morning. I turn 40 in the next few months. I went out and got a clear blue to date but already knew via tracking I have to be around 3 weeks.

I hope this sticks, I've never ever been pregnant before so this is all so new. I'm trying to be positive and will take one week at a time but I wanted to share some goods news, 39 years old and happy to be pregnant. It is possible !

Congratulations! What's the Hycosy treatment?

38andtrying · 27/02/2023 14:28

yay!!! great news, that's also a great strong line. Really hoping all goes well for you and you have healthy pregnancy and baby. Congratulations x

Fruitandnuts · 27/02/2023 14:31

If you give it a google search. It was recommended by a friend, its worth looking into if you are in a similar situation. I was considering the IVF route next so I'm really hoping everything will work out

Such great news! Congratulations op 😍

CaffeineAndCrochet · 27/02/2023 16:10

Congratulations!

MK85 · 27/02/2023 16:28

Congratulations 🎊 so happy for you
Yes I completely agree with the stories about dye test improving fertility. I'm 37 , been trying 17 years and had a hsg in November, conceived for first time ever in December which in itself is truly a miracle and I don't think a coincidence. Apparently it flushes out your tubes. Sadly mine ended in a chemical but your story gives me great hope that my baby dreams aren't over just because I'm getting older x

TheBirdintheCave · 27/02/2023 16:28

Congratulations :) Also, according to the Clear Blue you're probably more like 4-5 weeks.

Fruitandnuts · 01/03/2023 08:55

Thanks everyone, the hardest part now is keeping it to DP and myself. I did cave and tell my sister, I just want to tell everyone but its still very early and I'm anxious.

Congratulations!
It took us 14 months when I was 37 and we'd lost hope. DH has low sperm count. I had a hsg in the December and fell pregnant in the January. DD was born on my 38th birthday.

countrypunk · 01/03/2023 09:24

Congratulations OP, this is so wonderful!

Can I ask what the HyCoSy procedure was like? I've just had a round of IVF so am used to intrusive procedures in my nethers...

pippabg · 01/03/2023 09:46

Congratulations! Where can you get the HyCoSy done?

WimbyAce · 01/03/2023 10:17

A Hycosy procedure is what they do when they put dye through your tubes to check if they are blocked. Can be done via NHS to rule out any problems. It is very quick and I didn't experience any discomfort during or after.

WimbyAce · 01/03/2023 10:17

Also congratulations OP!!

curliegirlie · 01/03/2023 10:24

Huge congratulations! I conceived my first DD after 15 months/10 cycles and had pretty much given up hope. Am now trying for #3, on cycle 13 and not feeling hopeful now....

htab · 01/03/2023 10:39

Is hycosy test painful? I have extreme anxiety even when it comes to smear test. Does someone like me can withstand this? What was your experience and congratulations for the baby 😊

Fruitandnuts · 01/03/2023 13:34

I found the HyCoSy pain free, I didn't even take any painkillers afterwards. The staff were lovely, it was done privately at a fertility clinic. It felt 'strange' as I could feel the dye going through and could see it on the screen happening but it was over in minutes. The Dr said it was another part of the jigsaw puzzle to help understand why i had unexplained fertility issues. I was going through all the things i could control before thinking of IVF route - diet, exercise, vitamins, & lifestyle.

Thank you for response. Did they give you any anesthesia before and please can you let me know the private cost of hycosy. I am ttc and planning to get one done. NHS has waiting list from ages unfortunately.

Yeah I am taking vitamins, not sure what diet for conception but trying best to take balanced. I guess if it enhances fertility it's better to think before iui or ivf. Thanks for response in advance. Appreciate it and I hope you have a safe and healthy journey. 😊👍

Mumofone2 · 01/03/2023 15:05

Huge congratulations @Fruitandnuts, wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy 💖

Fruitandnuts · 01/03/2023 17:08

@htab No anaesthesia, honestly it was over within say 15 mins? The private cost was around £200, i would google if its available in your area and get prices. Its not a guarantee but i wanted it done.

As far as Vitamins over the past 15 months I've taken these -

  1. Zita West Vitafem Pre-Pregnancy Multivitamin - 30+ Nutrients for Optimal Fertility and Pregnancy Health
  2. https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/vitamins-and-supplements-/vitabiotics-wellwoman-x30
  3. Liposomal CoQ10 Ubiquinol 600mg, 60 Mini Softgels of High Strength Active Coenzyme Q10, Superior Bioavailability & Absorption, Powerful Antioxidant for Heart and Vascular Health
  4. OVUM Fertility Supplement with MicroActive™ CoQ10, Methylfolate and Zinc | We Start With The Egg ® | Most Scientifically Advanced Supplement for Pre-Conception and Ovulation Support

my focus was on egg quality, taking the vitamins, stopped smoking/vaping back in September, reduced alcohol, exercised more and watched what i eat.

I fell pregnant after receiving the same procedure x we had been trying for 7 years x

htab · 01/03/2023 17:33

Thank you that was so detailed and I think I will get this done too. Better to try everything before going through ivf. Thanks for the hope 😊

Got2besoon · 02/03/2023 10:39

Congratulations OP! I've just had my BFP after 20 months of trying.

I had a hsg (similar to hycosy) 2 months ago and was also on my 2nd month of clomid.

It seems so bizarre to be pregnant after seeing negatives every month for so long.

blebbleb · 02/03/2023 10:41

Congratulations! Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!
