Faint positive tests? Also have the coil

So I had only a day or so of spotting for my last period around 4 weeks ago. I've since had light spotting a few other days and felt something may be different. I've done two clearblue tests this weekend and I think they may be faint positives but I'm not 100%? I also have the three year Jaydess coil which was due to be removed this December 2023, so unsure if its just a problem with my coil instead.

If anyone could please let me know if they can see a positive result too from my pictures?

And any advise if this may be just a false positive because of my coil? Or maybe I've tested too soon? Thank you 🩷

It looks pretty positive to me

Miscellaneousme · 20/02/2023 09:27

It looks positive, you need to call your EPAU or GP.

Newbie193 · 20/02/2023 12:37

Thank you Both! I thought so too, I've booked an appointment with my GP this afternoon! Thanks again 😊

How did it go?

McConkeysPlate · 21/02/2023 18:48

They look positive!

Inkypot · 21/02/2023 19:39

I have a faint positive and also have a coil at the moment too. No advice sorry as I'm not sure what to think myself but just wanted to let you know you're not alone 🙈 This is mine but I've been negative on another brand. Hope you get the result you're hoping for. X

@Newbie193 how did you get on?

lemonyfox · 21/02/2023 19:55

I had a faint positive with the coil and it ended up being ectopic - everyone in a similar boat please contact your GP about this as it needs to be investigated.

Thank you for this. I did speak to my GP who did a urine test at the time and said it was negative so no worries. But then I had the faint positive I've put the photo of.
Would you be comfortable sharing any symptoms you had? Totally understand if you would rather not. X

@Inkypot honestly I had none apart from a missed period, no pain and had negative tests for weeks. One very faint positive then more negative tests. I just put it down to a weird missed period as my cycles were still regulating after I'd had my son 10 months before and I'd breastfed/expressed for 6 months.

It was only 4-5 more weeks later when I started what I thought was an eventual period but then started losing these horrendous bloody clots that I thought hmm maybe I'm miscarrying and I didn't realise it was a pregnancy, did a test and it was a bit stronger but not the same kind of strong line you'd expect for being that many weeks. Straight to the hospital, loads of scans, had to have several blood tests a few days apart to confirm ectopic.

As an interestingly morbid point, I would have been 10-11 weeks along in the ectopic. I did a clear blue digital test and it only said 2-3 weeks pregnant, that's how low and slow HCG levels are with ectopics.

Sorry to hear you went through that, and thank you for sharing your experience. So lucky you were ok in the end. X

Thank you for suggesting I go to the GP, was definitely needed. So if anyone does end up in the same situation as me please do contact your GP.

So I went to the GP yesterday who sent me straight to an Early Pregnancy Unit at my local hospital yesterday afternoon. They did another urine test there which was also positive. But I also had an ultrasound which couldn't see anything. I had a blood test which I received the results back for this morning. This showed also a positive result but with a low hCG result at only 33. They've ruled out an ectopic for now, said they could near enough rule this out from my bloods plus ultrasound and symptoms; but I know what to look out for if anything changes. And they advised me to stay in the local area encase my symptoms did change and to go to A&E.
So TW the hospital have said I am either going through a miscarriage or I am very early in my pregnancy; hence the ultrasound result and low hCG.

I took a clearblue more expensive test this morning which said 1-2 weeks pregnant, and the EPU want me back Thursday for another blood test. They say this hCG blood result should double between Monday and Thursday, if I am pregnant. And if the result lowers than the opposite.

Thank you for all the advise, and please go to your GP if you end up in the same situation as me! 🩷

Thank you, this post has been the kick I needed to get myself back to the doctor. Hope you are alright x

Newbie193 · 21/02/2023 20:22

No worries at all, always worth getting checked out!

To be honest I probably wouldn't have gone to the GP without the positive test but all other symptoms, so I've definitely learnt a lot this week and will be more inclined to get checked out if something doesn't feel right in the future! x

Thanks for the update OP. Thinking of you! How are you feeling?

I know it's not the same, as I did not have the coil, but I was taking the mini pill religiously and fell pregnant. It sadly was ectopic and it was such a whirlwind of a week from finding out to then having surgery. X

worriedGirlMumma · 22/02/2023 16:28

I have a coil in. There's a raised risk of ectopic pregnancies. Defo get booked in for a scan to check.

MissSmiley · 22/02/2023 18:44

@Newbie193 so did the scan show your coil still in place? Or has it moved? I hope you are coping ok, good luck tomorrow

Newbie193 · 24/02/2023 13:04

So my first scan on Monday showed my coil was in place and was fine but unfortunately nothing else.

My 2nd blood test from yesterday has shown my hCG has risen over triple so I haven't had a miscarriage. The Doctors have said they cannot rule out an ectopic just yet as the scan couldn't see where the pregnancy is located. And having the coil increases the chances of an ectopic.

They've asked me to go back for a 3rd blood test on Monday and a 2nd scan on Tuesday. They are hoping after a week they'll be able to see more on the scan 😬

The unknown is the worst part and any twinge does make me nervous that its an ectopic, but fingers crossed I'll have more answers next week!

Just an update encase anyone reads this feed in the future for advise 🩶

I've now been diagnosed with a left sided ectopic and receiving treatment this afternoon at the hospital which will hopefully stop me needing surgery.

So if anyone does have similar symptoms/circumstances as my OG post please speak to your GP. And I was advised any severe pain or bleeding to attend A&E.
