Can lack of sleep be the reason I can’t conceive??

Hi all
I’ve been trying to conceive baby number 2 for a few months now ( tracking ovulation dates etc etc) but no luck. Of course I know it can take a while I guess first baby was first month so I thought this one would be the same!

I would like to think I eat well, don’t drink don’t smoke, I’m doing all the correct ovulation dates so I’m not sure why it’s not working - one thing I can think of that is significantly lacking is lack of sleep can this be it? As we’ve really struggled with our babies sleep past few weeks now ( don’t know why it is) but definitely I’m running on minimal sleep!! Sometimes only 2-3 hours! Hopefully it’s just a phase but it’s Far far less then our usual sleep I’m used to before, she’s 18 months now and until now it was actually okay.

But then I think this can’t be it so many women get pregnant even during newborn stages etc where they definitely have lack of sleep too! Any thoughts?

I honesty do. I'm an insomniac and don't sleep til 4 or 5 am, I've been like that my whole life but ive finally after 37 years got into the habit of going to bed few hours earlier , I'm sleeping better and less exhausting my body in the morning and I actually ovulated that month ( I have never ovulated before because of my pcos , confirmed by bloods) and I rarely have a period but we conceived that month ( didn't work out sadly ) I've now had 4 periods in a row tho because my sleeping habits are better so yes I definitely think sleep pays a huge part of it

Hi @Starryeyed2021 i'm in a similar situation, i had baby my first baby first month of trying. I still do night feeds. I'm trying to concieve baby #2 but have not fallen pregnant yet. I'll watch this thread to see other people's comments x

Sorry for typos, doing a nightfeed 😁

Hmm. I’m not too sure. Maybe there have been some studies on it but I doubt it would be a strong link.

I think it’s hard for people who got pregnant first time around to realise how lucky they were. It can take a perfectly healthy couple a year and that’s classed as normal. Every cycle has about a 25% chance of conception.

Try not to overthink it and just keep doing what you’re doing. I’m sure it will happen soon. Baby dust to you!

Stress definitely can prevent conception and lack of sleep and general physical exhaustion is stressful.

Here’s a study that you might find interesting

Sometimes it just takes a long time to get pregnant. A few months is nothing.

I know so many people who got pregnant when according to ovulation tracking/ sticks it shouldn’t be possible. I don’t think they’re that accurate.

If you’re only having sex when you ‘should’ (understandable if you’re knackered) you might be missing the right slots.
