Hello

I’m just hoping somebody may be able to offer me their opinion and or advice. I’m 31 and I suffer from a heart condition I was always told don’t get pregnant until you’ve had pre pregnancy counselling. I asked for this 2 years ago and only had my appointment recently.

I’ve been told I’ve got suspected marfans syndrome and that they want me to wait to get pregnant until I’ve had genetic testing done and more detailed assessment as if I have marfans Im at high risk of an aortic dissection during pregnancy. We’re easily looking at another year if not more before we can have the testing due to the long wait times.

my GP told me that the cut off age for IVF in my county is now 34, I’ve always had bad periods so I came off all contraception (implant and pill) last year to see how bad they were. Unfortunately 3 months down the line I’ve had no period, I paid for a private fertility MOT and a blood test showed my AMH to be 3, I’ve also only got 1 follicle on my left and 2 on my right ovaries and was told fhis is quite low. I’ve got low oestrogen and they’ve found I’ve got osteopenia because of this.

my first question is do I need to be actively trying to get pregnant for my GP to refer me for investigation into the low ovarian reserve ? Because I’ve been told specifically do not get pregnant until I’ve had my genetic testing I’ve got a year wait till I can ttc if I then have issues with low ovarian reserve I’ll have to be trying for 2 years after this to be referred, this will total 3 years and I’ll be verging 35 and I’m not sure if they will then say I’m too old for IVF.

im getting myself so upset about the situation, do we go ahead and try naturally and if we are lucky deal with the issues from getting pregnant and my heart or do we do as the doctors have said and sit and wait but then if we have fertility issues potentially risk being too old for nhs ivf.

i would be grateful for any opinions or to hear If anybody else has had similar issues or if low Amh and oestrogen will even impact on me getting pregnant ! Also has anybody had a pregnancy with heart condition I just wondered how you found it.

I don’t have any specialist knowledge so in your situation I would trust the doctors advise not to try getting pregnant while awaiting tests BUT I would totally lie and say you had been trying during that year in order to speed up access to fertility treatments which it sounds like you may need.

I would also use that year to do anything you reasonably could to increase your fertility. Obviously ask the fertility specialists about how to do that, as I don’t know how.

Hi is it possible to get the testing done privately for the genetic testing? Also, are they worried that the condition would affect baby and you? A complicated pregnancy would be very stressful. Similarly low ovarian Reserve only goes one way, I had this.

Can you pay to have the genetic testing done privately? It could be a way to speed things up.

I'm sorry you're going through this.
