Hi

Ob 16/01, I had an MRI scan with contrast (I believe it’s called Gadolinium contrast media) Dr referred me to ENT for ‘suspected throat cancer’ scaring the life out of me, because my tonsils are inflamed and I felt like there was something ‘stuck’ there, despite me begging for antibiotics for months to try first, which they finally gave me 6 days ago and it has now cleared it up…

DP and I had drunken unprotected sex on 15/01 and he pulled out (sorry for tmi…) turns out I was ovulating that very day. My period is now 4 days late, boobs are incredibly sore, have been for about 5 days and I’m exhausted constantly. Haven’t had time to test but will later today/tomorrow morning. My concern is that I had the contrast injection with the MRI which is really bad to have at any point in pregnancy. I wouldn’t have actually been pregnant as such at the time, more like just conceived, being it the night before. My question is, if I do turn out to be pregnant (I know unlikely given that he pulled out) would there be any adverse effect to the pregnancy?

there’s a lot of info about the effects on pregnancy but nothing about conception so I really don’t know

thank you for taking the time to read and answer x

If you had the MRI the day after the sex, there probably hadn’t even been a conception, let alone implantation, so I can’t see how it could be amy thing to worry about.

hope you get the news you want on both fronts 💐💐

What’s really sad about this is that I’d love to be pregnant, we would be so happy despite not actually ‘trying’ and it if this is the one month it happens then it’s going to really upset me that I’ve had the scan and plus antibiotics and I’ll be so worried about the effect it would have. Also that the MRI and everything was absolutely pointless and unnecessary because I knew antibiotics would clear it up but drs insisted on sending me to ENT and it turns out I was right instinctively all along.

Thanks so much for your reply, I have thought the same but I’m also worried now about having taken all these antibiotics. I haven’t looked up if they’re safe during pregnancy though, my brain is a bit all over the place at the moment so it’s something I’ll look into if it turns out I am pregnant. And thank you, fingers crossed x

I think most antibiotics are safe during pregnancy so that would be low on my list of concerns.

Just did a really quick google and the antibiotics would have been given as a ‘just on case’ for the tiny risk of infection from the dye, so doesn’t sound like they would give you anything particularly strong

But given your period is late, the best thing you can do is take a test. You should get a definitive result given you’re late, so can get an answer either way today

Thank you so much and that’s really kind of you to look it up, I’m so grateful. I’ll post back when I find out either way 🙂

Just took two different tests, both negative. So now I’m wondering why my period is so late. I have EWCM as well so I don’t know what’s going on. I’ll probably test again in the morning but it’ll likely be negative again
