Does anyone find that a short cycle one month means a long cycle next month?

Hi folks!
I'm on CD 34, 5 days now from when AF was expected... possibly 17-18dpo
My previous cycle was short, 23 days, I wonder if anyone else has pondered whether a short cycle one month makes next cycle longer?

My ovulation day is estimated by my app but not been doing bbt much lately (lack of routine etc always seemed to discount them anyway and make me too anxious/obsessive) I turned 35 a couple months ago.
I've been to noticing my physical signs of ovulation with more confidence and instead now go with cm etc and LH tests and record those (much to apps disapproval!) Got one positive LH this time (it seems mine are fleeting and hard to catch) I wasn't well with a cold this time, minimal effort, so not been very hopeful this month and not noticed as much of the usual post-ov breast pain - until this morning (and thinking on CD34?!)

Shall I just go get a test? Any insight much appreciated! I've stopped engaging friends/fam in this disappointing merry go round now. I already feel bad for telling DH before going to work as its prob another false alarm :/

Also ttc nearly 2years
Just left voicemail at hospital to ask for appt to discuss ivf. I've not been on pregnancare 'conception' much last cpl months as I wanted to take vit E separately as I've started with Blepharitis around my eyes and so instead got folic acid just to cover that basis.

No harm in doing a test, if you’re already 17/18 dpo it’s likely to show up on a test.

I do have cycles that vary in length, I had a string of 4 cycles recently which were 23 days, 31 days, 23 and 31 again …. I don’t know why but I always think it has something to do with which ovary is being used but I’m no medical professional and I’m sure I’m talking hocus pocus haha. Just thought I’d share that I experience similar. My longer cycles always throw me off and get me very hopeful for a BFP.

Hoping you get your BFP, fingers crossed for you!

Thanks so much for replying and sharing @CAA121 🤗
I think I will nip into town and just get a test.
It's maybe just my dodgy data input but I could do with getting it off my mind 🤪
All the best x

Yes, this is almost always the case for me, but I have PCOS so do consider whether this might be a reason for you.

Also it's the first half of my cycle that changes length - period to ovulation can vary massively. Ovulation to period is always the same.

Thank you @October2020!
Yes I see that mentioned quite often on here. I'll keep it in mind and maybe check with gynaecologist. They gave me blood tests, smear and a highly unpleasant ultrasound back in Jan-Feb and all normal so hopefully thats still the case:)
DH has low motility but been on supplements and all sorts so just going through motions a while longer and then see about next step!
Cheers x

Not quite the same but mine seem to alternate. According to my app (Flo) my months go 26, 29, 26, 29, 26 which is as long as I've been tracking it. Really odd!
I think you're worth testing, no harm in it really. If nothing else I've found doing a test triggers AF the next day...

Thanks @Olivetreebutter!
Gosh aren't our bodies funny in their ways!

Just tested, BFP, looks like the game is on!

When I was ttc I used to ovulate on day 14 from one ovary and day 16 from the other. I could feel it and during fertility treatment scans confirmed that what I thought I was feeling was correct.

That's amazing @eurochick!
So cool to have that confirmed, thanks for sharing:) x
