Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has experience ttc/ getting pregnant when their partner was on SSRIs? Some of the stuff you read online about the effect on sperm production is a bit troubling. He doesn’t want to stop (and I don’t want him to stop) taking his medication because it’s important for his mental well-being. Really grateful for any insights on whether it’s still possible to conceive.
thank you!

As far as I'm aware, SSRI's reduce fertility, although I'm not sure the ins and outs of it. Why don't you and your husband speak to a doctor who can give advice on what might be best for you to do.

Hey there,

The NHS website says there is no evidence to suggest that SSRIs cause fertility issues. It says SSRIs may reduce sperm quality but it’s not proven. I hope that helps.

thanks so much @petalflowers95 and @PrplePanda for taking the time to reply.
I hadn’t realised the nhs says that- that’s actually quite encouraging..

I got pregnant by accident when DH was on SSRIs.

@TheShellBeach ahh thanks so much for sharing your experience ☺️. That gives me hope. The stuff you read online sounds pretty grim, but I don’t really have enough context to make sense of it..

It’s also good to remember that a lot of the negativity online is there because people are always more inclined to share their negative experiences. The people who have positive experiences are less likely to rave about it online because they’ve had a good experience and are likely to just get on with their day without feeling the need to find people who are in the same boat as them. I’ve been taking SSRIs for a few months now and have had a wonderful, positive experience taking them, but I haven’t posted about it online because I’ve not had any questions or worries about the medication. I hope that makes sense! :-)
