Your experiences of a chemical pregnancy

I wasn’t necessarily expecting to fall pregnant this cycle as it’s only my first proper cycle since weaning my baby, although my husband and I do want another baby.

I’ve been spotting on and off for a few weeks (usually after sex as have recently had confirmed cervical erosion) but the last 48 hours this kind of turned from sporadic spotting to more continual light bleeding - pink/red blood, perhaps a tbsp of blood throughout the day with some small clotting maybe the size of cous cous.

I tested yesterday with a digital test and it said 2-3 weeks pregnant. Today I took a variety of other tests and they all came back with strong positives. I’m currently on day 25 of my cycle.

i think it’s a chemical pregnant as the bleeding has been persistent even though fairly slight/moderate, and there have been streaks of clotting. No cramping yet.

I just wanted to hear what your experiences were? Did you get a bfp straight away? Should I expect pregnancy tests to get fainter? was your bleeding fairly light with it being only 4 weeks in? Did you get cramping? Will I get another period after this bleed or does this count as my period?

I had a blood test today at an epu and have to go back Saturday for the comparison Blood test.

To add, these were my tests today. So positive while bleeding.

Hello! I’m no expert as I just experienced a chemical on my first cycle. But those look like some strong positive tests!

I wasn’t sure exactly how many DPO I was as I was only tracking on an app. But AF was due on the Saturday.. that week I got a very faint line on a stick on the Monday, positive FRER on the Wednesday and another positive FRER on the Friday, but the line was lighter 😬 I started spotting on the Saturday and AF arrived right on time. I did test after that and they were negative 🥺 I expected the bleeding to be heavier but if anything it was just like a normal period (mine are quite light and short). I did have cramps quite bad on the first day but that was all really.

Not quite sure if it classes as a period but we have just went straight back into ttc and hoping for the best this month! 🤞🏼
With your lines being quite strong I’m hoping for good news for you from your blood tests.. keep me updated ☺️✨

Not sure if this is classed as a chemical, but I tested positive at 4 weeks but 5 days later started bleeding and was negative by 5+1. I counted it as a period and used ovulation kits a couple of weeks later, my cycle was a bit longer but I did get a fertile smiley on the test.

I was told by friends that I might be v fertile after an early loss, not sure how true that is but I actually got pregnant again the very next month (considering it had taken a year before the early loss /chemical)... she's now 19 months ☺

It's not always the case but chemicals usually produce very light pregnancy tests.

Yours look very strong positives so that's a good thing. I've had a few chemicals and they stayed light and disappeared eventually leading to a late period.

Could the bleeding be your cervical erosion ? Contact epau at your hospital and ask for a scan. Good luck op

I have also read this about being more fertile and hope it’s true! Your story gives me hope… I’m praying we conceive successfully this cycle 🥺🤞🏼✨

Thanks all. I think it confused me because I got the positive tests when I was bleeding. But I have cramping today like I would with AF and have carried on bleeding so emotionally I’ve accepted this one probably isn’t viable and will look forward to starting again next month! I will let you know what the blood test results are though as it may help others on their journey x

@Jellywellyfish sorry to hear that 😢 when was AF actually due?

Jellywellyfish · 02/12/2022 08:54

Well I’m not entirely sure as this is my 2nd cycle after weaning my baby and my first cycle was 41 days! I used to be 29 days so literally don’t know when to expect AF but probably in the next 5-10 days.

So, I’ve just had a call from the epu and they have said my HGC levels are 4745 so quite high. They have said because they are high they might be able to detect something so they are scanning me tomorrow now.

@Jellywellyfish I had a chemical in august and my tests never got as dark as yours, fingers crossed for you that everything is okay and its just normal bleeding x 🤞🏼

allgoodthings84 · 02/12/2022 12:44

I have just had 2 chemicals 2 cycles in a row 😢. Both times tests got lighter than negative before I started bleeding. The first one my cycle was as normal after but this time it’s going to be a bit longer as my opk’s only just getting a bit darker but not quite positive. I didn’t test until day after AF due both times so the period didn’t come as normal.

your lines are dark and a lot of people bleed in early pregnancy so don’t panic yet

This is reassuring! 🤞🏼 your tests are very dark! And also some people just randomly bleed when pregnant and it’s nothing to worry about. Keep us updated 🥰

Jellywellyfish · 02/12/2022 23:38

Thanks all. I do feel like AF is well and truly here as bleeding like a normal period now. I have an appt with epu for a scan in the morning so will
find out what’s what then let you know.

Jellywellyfish · 03/12/2022 12:51

So update is scan revealed no visible pregnancy in uterus or right ovary but there were shadows on my bowl covering left ovary so still could be ectopic - which I am so scared about. I’ve had a blood test again so will wait to see if the levels have fallen. I had bad cramping last night so I think maybe the miscarriage has happened as the nurse said usually with ectopic pregnancy’s you don’t have a full bleed like I have as the pregnancy is ongoing just not viable. So I’m just hoping it’s a normal miscarriage and my hormone levels show they have fallen 🤞🤞🤞

@Jellywellyfish aww sorry to hear that 😩 it’s good they’re checking your bloods again & I really hope it’s not an ectopic! 🤞🏼
