I have come back to my pregnancy test and it looks like a v faint line

OH and I are desparately TTC & I did two of those "5 days early" tests which were both negative, but I didn't throw them out - I just put them back in the box and cried a lot. I have come back to it today to chuck it out discreetly so DCs don't see it and it looks like an extremely faint line is there on one of the tests. Do you get false positives showing up after a day or so? I don't know enough about how these tests work. The photo is crap; the line is a bit more visible irl but still much fainter than the C line. Thanks x

That's a difficult one as it's more likely an evap line now BUT this happened to me with my first where the positive line showed up outside the window.
If it's a true positive, it should show up by tomorrow if it's been a few days so I'd likely take another test so you'll know either way.

While I can see a line there if you have came back to it after a long time it's possibly an evap line. Don't lose hope as the best time to test is when your period is due. While you can obviously get an earlier result try again in a few days making sure to use the first urine of the day when you wake up, best of luck 😊

I was going to say evaporation line but that actually looks like a faint positive on closer inspection.

Is that the Boots one? They’re awful, my line on FRER was very strong, but the Boots test was super faint and I got myself in a tailspin! It looks positive to me, get a FRER to make sure x

There's a very specific window they need to be read within, op. Anything only showing up a day later isn't to be relied on

I had to google evap lines 😳 I am hopeful it is positive as the line is (very very) pale pink, not grey. Yes @Cuppasoupmonster it was a Boots 5 days early one 🤣 I just did a normal test which was negative, but my period still isn't due for a few days. There are no other "early" tests in the house, argh.

Update: I just did a FRER that I ordered on Amazon and it was negative 😪 so must have been an evap line after all. Absolutely gutted as I thought the faint line looked pink not grey. I will test again tomorrow morning but not a great outcome. Thanks all x

Reading the post, I was going to say it’s probably an evap line BUT that line is definitely pink so I would say it’s a positive OP!

Evap lines are usually the same colour as the control line. It's the same dye that runs through.

I took the test apart in the end and it looked grey when I shined a light on it, very much a textbook evap. I am sure it did look pink earlier. But I have done 2x FRER tests since (one this morning as soon as I woke up so would have the most hcg, and also much closer to my period) and they were both definitely negative. My period is only a day away now. Absolutely gutted... i know you shouldn't get your hopes up during 2ww especially if you've had a history of MC but I have really "felt" pregnant this cycle; lack of appetite and queasy, crying a lot (I rarely cry usually, even when PMSing), I was sure I felt implantation cramps, there was definitely cramping going on. Maybe it was something I ate lol. Thanks again for kind word xx

Are they the first response early ones or the first response rapid results tests? The latter are much less sensitive
