Sex 3-4 days before ovulation success?

So this month we have started trying but are trying for a girl as we have 2 boys already. So we're doing the shettles method and had sex 3 and 4 days before I ovulated. I'm just wondering what are the chances of getting pregnant this many days before i ovulate, has anyone else dtd days before ovulation and still got a bfp? I'm not holding out much hope this cycle. Almost 11dpo

I conceived 5 days before I ovulated! It was the only time I had sex that month!

Yes! Didn't know this was a thing, but we did, and my DM said it was no wonder we got 2 DDs, "...everyone knows that!".

@ellieeex I know this is a few days old, but it popped up and I just had you comment... My husband and I have 4 boys and had stopped trying earlier this year after several miscarriags... We weren't trying for a girl because it is pretty apparent to me that it just won't happen 😂... We got pregnant a few months ago after only having sex once that month (weren't trying, just wanted to dtd)... I know my ovulation cycle considering I use CM and temping and I ovulated SEVEN (although I will concede 6 days because 7 just seems so far fetched) after sex, and we just found out its a girl... Idk if the girl/boy me tho is true, but given what science knows about the morphology and motility of sperm, I am inclined to believe it... Girl sperm swims slower but for father distances, and boy sperm is purportedly the opposite... Good luck...

Oh wish I’d seen this at the time! We’re trying the same. I’m on the baby dust Facebook group and it does work for some people anyway. I couldn’t be bothered holding off for 3 months to track so instead I’m just trying to go by as soon as my opk starts to rise at all we’re aiming for that night then it’s usually 2-3 days before ovulation happens. Last month we did exactly that, BFN. This month we fell out the day it started rising but I wasn’t even sure that was it anyway so wouldn’t have tried (and we’re only having one shot based on baby dust menthod, who knows if that helps at all). Ended up trying the next night but got my peak later that night and pretty sure I ovulated 24 hours later so was only a 24 hour cut off. Now waiting til Saturday to test. Obviously praying it’s negative but don’t feel confident itl be at all swayed towards girl if it is. I only have one little boy and know we’d like three children so would just like to experience both so if it was another boy now that would be amazing too but feel like the pressure would be completely off for the third if we already had one of each.

@Sparklythings1 aww fingers crossed for you !!! We are trying for baby nr2. We have one boy as well :) I had a mmc at the end of July so really hoping to be pregnant again before February when baby was due x

@Sparklythings1 for now I think so yes 🙈 but who knows what the future holds for us right ? Always wanted a twins too, so that would be great 😃 so are you testing on Saturday ? I might test tomorrow I know it’s quite early tho xx

@Doodles18 Ive always said I have a feeling we’d have twins! I think I’ll probably end up testing on the off chance on Friday, that will be 9dpo. What are you tomorrow?

@Sparklythings1 I just don’t have any symptoms at all, I know it’s early and not sure if I had any in May as I wasn’t even thinking it was possible I was pregnant so I didn’t symptom spot. And with my DS I don’t remember anymore if I had any symptoms really x

Hi @Mimi2022 ! Baby isn't here yet, just another 12 days til my csection but NIPT and about 30 ultrasounds say baby is a girl.. I'll keep you all updated!

It is common to conceive after sex a week before ovulation, or even longer, but there is absolutely no difference between "girl" and "boy" sperm, and the timing of sex will not affect the sex of the baby

I know this is an old thread but just to add my experience for people googling this!
I get ovulation pain so can pinpoint exactly when I ovulate and it was the Monday 4pm.
Peak was Sunday AM and we dtd 3pm.
We also dtd the previous Thursday night (so just a few hours away from being 4 days before ovulation)
I'm having a girl!
So I'm not sure whether to think the sperm was waiting from the Thursday night or whether the most recent sperm got there first, but it's interesting to think from a shettles perspective, as I had been interested in the theory in general for years.
My first I had was trying very hard for a baby DTD constantly and he's a boy.

We did it and it ended up being 2.5 days before on the month we conceived. It’s a girl! I posted on here about it and every single comment was telling me how ridiculous I was and there’s no such thing as swaying 🙈 based on my now 2 kids, a boy and a girl, there is! 😂

I have a DS conceived after DTD on day 5 of a 24 day cycle so 5 days before ovulation and a DD conceived on D9 of 24 day cycle so 1 day before ?.

@Nimbostratus100 how do you know it’s common to conceive a week before? Seems long?

It is just as scientific understanding becomes more advanced, and more is discovered.

There was a lot of studies at one stage on how long sperm could survive inside a woman, and these were based on finding mobile sperm, and sperm only stay mobile for a few days.

Now it is known that sperm can and do go into a form of hibernation, and are live and viable, but NOT detected as mobile, and then reactivate at ovulation

Actually, this was known about in the past, in that observations of when sex occurred related to periods ( when nothing was known about ovulation) gave a greater window of likelihood to conceive, then when studies were dont on mobile sperm, that window was erroneously shrunk down to a very small number of days, despite the experiences of many women, who conceived without sex in that small number of days...

so again, I am afraid, a case of science being held up because things that women knew and experienced were ignored
