Pregnant, still breastfeeding, no period...could it end up a chemical?

I couldn't think of a shorter title!

So here I am, 41, with a 5 month old, still breastfeeding and haven't had a period yet and fantastically I got a clear positive on a Frer today (over the moon)

Based on previous pregnancy test results over the years I would say it's the equivalent line to a 13-14DPO line but I'm guessing as I haven't tracked my ovulating.

So the only way this pregnancy could peter out would be if I got my period right?
Which hasn't happened thus far so I'm hoping it's highly unlikely?

Previous to my 5 month old l had many chemical pregnancy's so Im wary of that happening again but im feeling optimistic this time!

You got a definite positive so you're not going to get a period . It's always possible that a pregnancy will be chemical, but hopefully you will have a successful outcome. Good luck !

Thanks @ShippingNews
I guess what I'm hoping to avoid doing is constantly testing and obsessing over the lines darkening...whereas if I know the only way I'll have lost the pregnancy is if a period arrives I think I'll be able to stop testing and feel confident I'm pregnant.

I tested again this morning and it does look a little lighter than yesterdays which has got me worried, but no feelings of an impending period either.

A pregnancy can't just disappear without a period...that's what I'm telling myself

Wow! That’s amazing! Fingers crossed for you that it’s not a chemical pregnancy!

Can I ask, are you exclusively breastfeeding, or combination feeding? I am exclusively breastfeeding my 3 month old and don’t expect my period to return until between month 9 and 12. I can’t be ovulating yet either as i always have a lot of pain when I ovulate and it hasn’t happened yet.

Good luck and keep us updated! 😀

Hi @BabyBorn
I'm mixed feeding now but started off exclusively BF until she was about 3 months old.
I had no ovulation symptoms so I'm frankly very surprised we managed to time it right!
I will be very disappointed if it doesn't continue successfully 🥲

@ohblahdeeohblahdahlifegoeson The reason i was asking about the combination feeding is because when you reduce the amount of breastfeeds in one day over a period of time, you are more likely to start ovulating again. So the fact this has been happening, it looks really good! Got my fingers crossed for you!

ohblahdeeohblahdahlifegoeson · 02/10/2022 23:22

@BabyBorn thankyou!
This helps set my mind at ease (slightly)

My husband currently works away and is only home occasionally so the chances of us conceiving again is very slim!

I would like to resist the urge to keep testing but lets be honest...it's hard to step away from the sticks!

How are you today? Have you tested again? (Think I already know the answer) 😆😆

We only DTD once that month when we conceived so it only takes the once at the right time!! X

ohblahdeeohblahdahlifegoeson · 03/10/2022 22:16

@BabyBorn thanks for checking in.
I don't think it's good news unfortunately 😞
My test this morning was barely visible...in all likelihood I'll test again in a few hours (I've been holding on for a few hours already!)

My husband is home this weekend and I really wanted to surprise him with the good news but now I'm in that horrible limbo space where it's just a waiting game.

No feelings of an incoming period though which is good...I'm holding onto that as a beacon of hope!

I don't know what happens tho if the positive tests fade away to nothing and yet a period doesn't come??

Hi @ohblahdeeohblahdahlifegoeson I can definitely see a second line though! Do the lines appear within the first 5-15 minutes? Just wondering if these look like evaporation lines?! 🥴 Xx

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 04/10/2022 05:16

Unfortunately @ohblahdeeohblahdahlifegoeson up to 1 in 3 pregnancies end in miscarriage and most v early on..I know you also have a history of miscarriage which may mean your risk is higher than others. As you said, I would expect to see lines increasing every 2 days, and they do not appear to be doing so. Keep checking every few days and I'm crossing my fingers for you for now and in the future x

ohblahdeeohblahdahlifegoeson · 04/10/2022 05:33

Unfortunately my period has started to arrive. The first one in 14 months.

At least I know I obviously fall pregnant quite easily so now I've just got to hope my next ovulation coincides with hubbys weekend home!

Sorry to hear this! On a good note, that’s great that your period has started! At least you know where you are now and can track! Like you say, you know you can fall pregnant quite easily so good luck and keep us posted!! 😄
