Hi everyone,

im looking for some reassurance. We have been TTC for over 3 years and were due to start IVF in a couple of months.. but this morning, to my surprise, I got a positive pregnancy test! I am worried as I have what feel like period cramps and terrified that everyone I go to the toilet, I’m going to see blood. Did anyone go through the same worry? It’s so cruel, waited so long for this day and now feel like I’m not enjoying it for the fear something will go wrong!

Congratulations on the positive test!

I was the same as you, period type pains and had just had a chemical pregnancy a couple of cycles earlier so adamant it wouldn't work out. Someone told me to just remember 'Today you are pregnant, celebrate that and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow'

And did you end up having a successful pregnancy? Did you get cramps when you had the chemical pregnancy?

I have had period type cramps my whole pregnancy. Currently being kicked by my healthy baby boy at 26 weeks pregnant. Try not to stress it can be very normal and you should only worry if you also have bleeding or bad pain. I'd say mine were worse from week 5-10 then eased and just came and went.

Congrats on your lovely news xxx

Ah that’s wonderful news. I’m waiting for my BFP so can’t offer advice but just wanted to say congratulations

Congratulations.
Cramps can be your body preparing for the growing fetus, I had it with both pregnancies (especially the first). So try not to worry.
Regarding not believing it I conceived after 4 years of trying and 2 fertility treatments first time then 5 rounds second time around. In both cases I didn't really acknowledge till I was quite far on that it was happening and remember the midwife saying she often saw this in women who'd taken along time to conceive or had other complications. Just try taking it day by day and relax as much as possible (easier said than done I know).

I can't answer your question but congratulations on your BFP!! SmileSmileSmile wishing you all the best x

Completely understand why you’re feeling this way, it would be strange not to after so long trying. Cramps are really common in early pregnancy, and sometimes further on. Lots moving round in there. It doesn’t indicate an issue.
Crossing everything for you xx

I felt the same when pregnant with my DS. Period cramps are totally normal if a bit scary.
Congratulations!

I had implantation bleeding and some cramping with my BFP, and then again at 5-6-7 weeks. 18 weeks now and all fine. I totally get the worry though having had recurrent miscarriages, I was terrified the first few weeks and not happy at all. Think i'd allow myself to start enjoying this a little and plan for things after the 20-week scan but until then I just accepted that it wasn't going to be a happy time for me. Makes it a bit easier to accept. Best of luck OP x

Thank you so much for all your reassurance, you have made me feel a bit better and I’m starting to get excited! Better believe I will probably take a pregnancy test every morning for the foreseeable future though just to keep checking 😂

Having had dc and mc twice I would like to say the pregnancies with the cramps were the successful ones!
Congratulations op!
