TTC 18 months - Private or NHS IVF??

Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster!

We have been ttc for 18 months now, with no BFPs. We've had all of our tests done, I've had bloods and ultrasound which was all fine.

We have some male factor issues, DH first SA was poor in all areas and suggested referral to fertility clinic. He's just had the second test and we have to wait two weeks just to speak to the GP.

Anyone else in this shit-uation? I'm getting really frustrated already with slow GP and don't know whether to just go private. Will going private effect eligibility for NHS IVF??

Anyway, thanks for reading my little rant!

Google the policy for your local CCG. I know in some areas you lose eligibility for IVF on the NHS if you have previously self funded cycles.

Thanks @ProlifiInProfanity it's a minefield! I've found the CCG funding document for my area and failed private attempts will be taken into account when assessing for NHS funding 😫

Its frustrating it varies so much on postcodes.

I'm so torn. I understand it could be an expensive lengthy process. But also time is ticking on and my GP is SO SLOW.

Hi, we’ve just had our first nhs referral fertility appointment where I had the internal scan done and paperwork. We’ve been told it will be 8 weeks for the next step of a doctor consultation then no idea how long after that before we could start treatment. We have male infertility factor, low in all areas. My results are good my cycles are really regular so really thinking ICSI will be the only way but if it is 8 weeks now before a doctor sees us it’s going to be much longer no doubt before treatment. We’re now looking at private options as we’ve been TTC or at least not on contraception for 4 years and I am 30 now so I don’t want to wait much longer. Did you make any progress?
