8 days after period, flashing smiley on clear blue ovulation test

Morning all, I’m 8 days from the start of my
Period and I’ve just taken a clear blue digital ovulation test and the smiley is flashing on screen. I also took a normal test, the lines are faint on both but still flashing to say “high fertility” - is this so normal only 4 days after my period ending? I believe I’m at the start of my ovulation cycle!

Hi yes completely normal. Clearblue looks for the rise in estrogen and LH whereas the strips look only for LH. Once clearblue detects the rise in estrogen it'll flash and stay flashing until it detects the LH surge at which point it'll go static. Intention is to give you more fertile days ahead of ovulation whereas if you wait for an LH surge the window is much shorter because it comes and goes within hours.

When I conceived, I had high fertility on a clearblue on CD8 then peaked on CD12. I picked up my LH surge on the evening of CD11 on a cheap strip so the two aligned at pretty much the same time.

Yes - I'm an early ovulater too!
They will probably move your due date nearer after the first scan, they did with both of mine x

@Bananabreakfast123 oh thanks so much for explaining! So I also have the clear blue monitor and that marked it as “low” but the clear blue stick said high fertility. So im assuming the monitor only looks for LH surge also?

would you start trying from now if trying to conceive after the high fertility test this morning?

@Devo1818 Amazing! We’re trying to concieve but everytime I google “early ovulation” it mentions miscarriages so I really shouldn’t google!

@Magicwells aaaah ok, sorry not sure about the various differences. I used the monitor but when I looked at the other tests I think they used the same technology but perhaps the monitor was more sensitive so more days. Not sure, possibly not helpful. I did find the monitor was particularly a

@Bananabreakfast123 ive taken the digital stick today and is static smiley meaning peak ovulation, I’ve used the monitor and stilL says low. I’m so confused!

Yes I conceived DS on D5 of my cycle and Dd on D9. I have a short cycle (24 days).

Bananabreakfast123 · 22/09/2022 07:38

@Magicwells sorry posted too soon. I did find the monitor to be accurate though when I tested with internet cheapies to confirm, as did my friend who gave it to me and we both conceived first cycle using it. I did find it difficult to trust initially, especially since I had highs so early but hopefully that gives you some reassurance that it works.

Magicwells · 22/09/2022 07:40

@Bananabreakfast123 I’m just concerned now as the digital stick is telling me I’m currently peak fertility but the monitor has said “low” all along? So how do I know whether I’m peak or not?! Being told two different things!

CB checks against your previous levels so gets a personal feel unlike the one off strips.

However, can I check that you have used it at the same time each day, eg FMU.

Just as an example, if you used it last night and you had just peed an hour before you tested, you would have low hormones. If you then peed this morning and tested, it would be stronger concentration and give a higher reading than it should (I didn't read the instructions properly and did this)

Magicwells · 22/09/2022 07:46

@startfresh ive been doing the tests everyday at 7am, all at same time. I’m just so confused why the digital is telling me I’m peak fertility and the monitor is low?

It's worth DTD just in case and hope. There are over ways to check you're ovulating (checking cervix, monitoring temp) but you need a baseline (and I've since worried about cervical checks and infection, especially with checking early pregnancy - not that it's happened to me).

SMEP (sperm meets egg plan) worked a treat for me, several times! I go overboard with making sure I don't miss anything. And didn't do more than once a day, to be safe.

Bananabreakfast123 · 22/09/2022 07:52

@Magicwells honestly not sure why the two would have such different results, really sorry. I've seen on other threads that clear blue are fairly responsive if you contact them. Are you able to try some cheap paper strip tests? I found them reassuring because you're not relying on the tech working. I've also read that you shouldn't read the lines on the monitor tests as they don't mean anything and aren't intended to be read. Meantime I'd definitely keep persevering with monitor testing to see if it progresses and possibly treat the static on the stick as a peak now, just to avoid an opportunity missed. Sorry I couldn't shed more light.

@Bananabreakfast123 Thanks so much for your help! Panicking a bit now that something is wrong with me 😪

@Magicwells I'm sure it's far more likely to be a faulty test but completely understand your frustration and anxiety. It's so difficult that you have no control over something when you want it so much. Wishing you a positive outcome soon 🤞

Fran919 · 22/09/2022 10:21

OP, @Magicwells you’ve got a number of threads on here about TTC / Long Haul flying etc. You’ve stated you’re going to Asia (Singapore) soon to a known country with Zika risk, although the risk is small, the NHS advises you should avoid whilst TTC or avoid TTC for 3 months after you get back.

I don’t want to sound harsh but other readers are encouraging to TTC potentially without the full facts that’s you’re soon travelling to a known risk of Zika. I know how difficult it is to stop TTC but I imagine you would be extremely anxious if you fell pregnant whilst in a Zika country and for the months after it without knowing any long term birth defects that can occur.

Magicwells · 22/09/2022 10:26

@Fran919 Hey Fran! I really appreciate all of your concern and help and completely understand the zika. We’ve been in contact and are changing our destination and no longer going to this country but are still doing Australia! I really appreciate all of your worry and we’re not actively trying I’m just tracking my ovulation more so!

Hey! I have just used the clear blue ovulation test for the first time today and it came up a static smiley face I’m a bit concerned that this is the first time I’ve ever used it and it has a static smiley face as it has nothing to judge a peak by as I’ve never used it before, do I have this all wrong? Sorry my first time trying these tests! I’m also 4 days post period which I’m confused about as my app shows ovulation isn’t for another 8 days! X
