6 months TTC #2 and a couple of losses on the way :-(

Anyone else in my shitty boat?

Started TTC #2 when my little one was about 14 months in April to aim for a two year gap.

Fell first month - miscarried at 5 weeks in May
Waited one month
Fell again in July - miscarried at 5 weeks again in august

I put it down to breastfeeding so I stopped doing that a couple of months ago now. This is my first cycle trying since miscarriage and I'm 10DPo and got a negative test this morning and zero symptoms.

I was so convinced as soon as I stopped bf I would conceive and it just hasn't happened. I know it's not been long but we are both late 30s and I'm feeling panicky!

Any success stories or solidarity out there for me?

Sorry for your losses. I am in a similar boat, I’m late 30’s and partner early 40’s ttc#2. Fell first month, miscarriage at 7 weeks after seeing a heartbeat at 6 weeks, next month fell again, lost it at 5 weeks, next month positive test at 14dpo in the morning then started bleeding in the evening. Now had 6 months of nothing. Think the thing I have found the hardest is how everyone says at least you have a baby, but that doesn’t make the loss’s any easier. I’m only 4dpo at the minute, but not hopeful this cycle. Fingers crossed you’ll get a late positive 🤞🏻🤞🏻

SiberFox · 13/09/2022 19:52

Feel for you @blueberry23. Started TTC for our first last year and had a chemical and a MMC at 10 weeks in a row. I'm 36 and my DH is in his forties, totally get the anxiety of whether it's just too late/ going to happen or not. Had to take a few months off nonetheless to get myself together. Fell pregnant again and all okay so far at 16 weeks. I have to say it's just dominated everything and I don't know a way out apart from just trying your best to stay calm, active and kind to yourself. Wish you all the luck in the world x

SiberFox · 13/09/2022 20:01

A loss is a loss, sorry you get such stupid comments @Bubblesandballoons. Losing the baby after seeing a heartbeat is particularly horrible isn't it. Happened to me with the MMC - I'm 16 weeks now in a new PG and still finding it very hard to feel like it's real and relax. Have you had any medical support after the 3 miscarriages? (assume you'd qualify?) x

Amyjones86 · 13/09/2022 20:05

Similar here too. 35 ttc#2 fell first month miscarried at 6 weeks fell again 2 months later MC at 5 weeks then a chemical pregnancy 2 months later. I’m now on my first cycle of clomid ovulation day was yesterday so going into the 2ww. Sending lots of luck to you @blueberry23 and @Bubblesandballoons congratulations @SiberFox I had my son after 3 years infertility and then a MC it is such an anxious time and difficult to explain to anyone that hasn’t been through it. X

Bubblesandballoons · 13/09/2022 20:12

@SiberFox , sorry you went through it too, it’s the worst as you relax and think it’ll be fine. I had some bleeding and they saw the heartbeat and sent me on my way full of hope, for my bleeding to ramp up a few days later and on the next scan the sac was empty 😔. i got referred after the 3rd one, but my appointment came through when I was on holiday, so I asked for it to be rearranged. I then got lost in the system despite ringing 3 times to chase it up. Finally got the appt through 5 months after my original one and then no one rang. They had only cancelled the clinic and not told me!! So now have to wait another 2 weeks for it. Been a piss take tbh. Just trying to relax as much as poss and think it will happen when the time is right, but that’s easier said than done 🙈
@Amyjones86 sorry to hear you have been through similar, it’s not easy for other people to understand. I hope the clomid helps and this will be your cycle ❤️.

lifehappens12 · 13/09/2022 20:21

Hello. Sorry to read what you have been through but I had a similar path to having my two children and I am a bit older.

Had my first just before my 39tj birthday. At 10 months we started trying and pregnant first try and lost baby at 8 week. I saw a gynaecologist after that mc and at my last check up i mentioned how scared I was I wouldn't conceive again as I was now 40.

She was clear there is a cliff at 40, the problem is you don't always release an egg each month and then sometimes you release more then one (twins!). It was a private appointment and she prescribed letrozole which stimulates ovulation.

I used it twice and got pregnant twice. Sadly we had another mc before having my second child. Not sure if you know this but the nhs will see you after 6 months of ttc to start testing

SiberFox · 13/09/2022 20:27

Thank you @Amyjones86, really hope you get your good news soon x.

What a nightmare of a process @Bubblesandballoons - as if you need this on top of the stress of TTC and miscarriages. Hope you get seen very soon and get your rainbow baby. God knows how not to get stressed throughout this journey - especially when you feel time pressured - but we can only do our best x

blueberry23 · 14/09/2022 08:26

This is why I love Mumsnet. Thanks for the solidarity everyone.

@Bubblesandballoons I'm so sorry you're going through this - it's the hardest thing ever.

@SiberFox congratulations I'm so happy for you. You give me hope!

@Amyjones86 everything crossed for you, can I ask why they gave you clomid? As we've not had any success in 6m I might book a GP app now.

@lifehappens12 thank you it helps me so much to se positive stories ❤️

I'm now 11dpo and won't be testing again as I know I'm not pregnant. Having been pregnant 3 times now with same symptoms each time I just know if that makes sense.

So, just waiting for AF and feeling positive about next cycle 🤞🏽

I never actually seemed to get a peak OPK this month so just had sex whilst I had EWCM (sorry for tmi haha) so im wondering if maybe we just didn't time it properly or if I even ovulated at all (though I did get ovulation pains)

emhope · 14/09/2022 09:14

@blueberry23 sorry to hear about your losses ❤️ Haven’t got a success story but I am in a similar boat, I’m 35 and partner is 45 and we conceived 1st month TTC back in March which unfortunately ended in a MMC at 10 weeks. We have been trying ever since (this will be cycle number 6) and had no luck. I know lots and lots of ‘older’ people have babies but still doesn’t stop me feeling panicky about our ages and whether it will happen again.

@lifehappens12 was your private appointment at a fertility clinic? And did you have tests before they prescribed letrozole? I have been looking into private fertility testing as not sure how long the wait will be on NHS, they also seem to do different tests to the NHS from what I have read so not sure where to start really!

blueberry23 · 14/09/2022 09:57

@emhope we've decided that if after the next cycle I'm still not pregnant we will go private as I don't want to waste any more time. Initial assessments and tests at our local fertility clinic are about £600 x

OP posts:
lifehappens12 · 14/09/2022 13:35

@emhope hi - literally no testing. I had a consultation following miscarriage management (she did my surgery) and I mentioned my concerns and she offer me a private prescription.

Before my first - we started trying age 37 and he took 8 months to conceive. I did go to the GP for a chat and they did some basic tests first - blood tests for ovulation and a scan of my ovaries and key was that my partner would need to have his sperm tested first. It's logical - it's way cheaper/quicker to check the man first.

I feel very lucky - I was at the GP getting my blood test results which were fine and she was very clear that actually getting pregnant isn't easy - even if you manage to have sex on the right day - it's still a 30% chance. I felt lucky as a week later I found out I was pregnant

Annie808 · 14/09/2022 14:30

It’s nice to read some success stories. @blueberry23 I am in a similar position to you, so so tough.
I don’t have any children yet tho, MMC at 9 weeks had MVA in April and then natural miscarriage at 6 weeks right at the start of August. The second was a huge shock, as I really thought two in a row was almost impossible.
TTC again this month, but not overly hopeful.
My GP also referred me to a recurrent miscarriage clinic, and amazingly they did accept to see me even tho ‘just’ had two. It’s all so draining after being so excited to start TTC at the beginning of this year :/

blueberry23 · 14/09/2022 15:27

@Annie808 I'm so so sorry to hear that. I can't imagine how tough it is when you're trying for your first. My little boy keeps us very busy. It is still hard TTC #2 but I imagine nowhere near as difficult. I really hope it happens for you so soon. I'm sure it will!

What did the miscarriage clinic say? I've been referred but my app isn't until November. I'm desperately hopeful that I am pregnant by then but I really don't know if I will be.

With #1 we fell first time. We didn't realise how lucky we were!

@blueberry23 thanks so much, yes really tough and finding other pregnancy announcements hard to deal with. Both my sister-in-laws announced pregnancy during this time, one after my first miscarriage and the other recently after my second miscarriage, that’s been particularly tough. I want to be super happy for them, but also feel so emotionally triggered by it all.

My first appointment at the clinic (just on Monday) they did a Uterus scan and blood tests. The scan is to check you don’t have any womb abnormalities or any cysts/fibroids ect. I had hosp scans after my miscarriages so was quite sure already I had nothing sinister womb related, but it was good to get reassurance on this. Then the blood tests were thyroid, blood clotting disorders, autoimmune checks…won’t get the results for a few weeks. I got a general woman’s health check after my second miscarriage and in those blood tests my thyroid all seemed fine, but interested to see if the blood clotting one throws up anything, as that’s why some women take Aspirin during pregnancy.

The next round of blood tests I have to go back for between day 2-4 of my cycle (I’m on day 14 so was too late for these), as that’s when they do the Hormone checks.
I wont get a consultation with the Consultant until all my results come back, so that could be 6-8 weeks away!
They said not to TTC during this testing time, but we will anyway! The nurse actually confirmed I had ovulated the day before my scan, we did dtd on Sunday so was pleased about that lol

sorry long msg but finally the nurse said when I next get a BFP they will offer extra support, access to Progesterone (top up can’t hurt but might help) and also extra scans for reassurance.

Hope you all get your rainbow BFPs so soon 🙏🏻

Annie808 · 14/09/2022 15:48

@blueberry23 also meant to say the fact that you have had one successful pregnancy already hopefully means for you it’s just rubbish bad luck, but you know your body has done it before and can do it again xx

Amyjones86 · 14/09/2022 16:16

thank you @blueberry23 I was prescribed as my consultant felt that I didn’t ovulate after my CP so he hopes that it would help. I have 4 cycles worth if it doesn’t work I’ll be having another laparoscopy to check for blocked tubes etc.

blueberry23 · 28/09/2022 19:30

@Amyjones86 did I see on another thread you have had a BFP? Congratulations!

So the clomid worked?! X

OP posts:
blueberry23 · 28/09/2022 19:31

How is everyone doing?

I'm 1dpo and should be dtd again tonight but I'm tired of it tbh 🤣

We did it three days and one day before ovulation and yesterday on ovulation day.

My EwCm has dried up and I felt ovulation pains yesterday so I reckon I'm correct in thinking ovulation has happened but still nervous to skip today 😆

Ooh the dreaded two week wait @blueberry23 . Sounds like you are well covered. Hopefully this one is a lucky one 🤞🏻.
Sadly not so good, another early miscarriage, just in time for my appointment. Got to wait 6 weeks now before I can have some tests done and no trying in that time… which I’m not so keen on, but after 4 losses I’m trying to focus on the fact it’s better to find out why I’m losing them, so hopefully the next one sticks.

Amyjones86 · 29/09/2022 07:52

Morning everyone I hope you are all ok. Yes @blueberry23 I did! I got a positive on 11DPO and a 1-2 weeks on clearblue at 13dpo. Now 4w5d 🤞🏼 all is ok and I can keep this one in. So 1st round of clomid worked. I did use Preseed, the Fertilily cup and a cough syrup containing guaifenesin to try and help with mucus. I also BD 2 days before peak, day before peak, day of peak and day after peak. I hope you all get your BFPs ✨👶🏼✨

Congrats @blueberry23 and all fingers crossed for you x

Cindy974 · 06/10/2022 19:19

Congratulations @blueberry23 ! My story is very similar to yours. We started trying for baby number 2 back when my DD was 12 months. Conceived and that ended in a miscarriage at 6 weeks, tried again had a MMC at 8 weeks then the third time we got to 13 weeks and found out baby had no heartbeat and passed at 10 weeks, another MMC. Now at the time I was still breastfeeding my DD, with each pregnancy I breastfed less and less and got further along… coincidence? Maybe, maybe not but after my third miscarriage I weaned as she was hardly feeding anyways and I thought i saw a connection. Im trying again as I just cant give up. Had all the blood tests and everything came back fine, had testing on the third miscarriage and there was no chromosome issues so I’m stumped: Have you completely stopped breastfeeding now? Wishing you all the luck with your new pregnancy 🤞🏼💕

Annie808 · 06/10/2022 19:47

@blueberry23 congrats! How many Dpo are you? All the best for this one 🌈!!
