Period 4 days late but negative pregnancy test

So I just want to start by saying that I know nobody will be able to tell me whether or not I'm pregnant but I was wondering if anybody had experienced something similar at all?

So for some background, my cycle is usually like clockwork always 28 days long. I always track them in my Fitbit app so I have lots of data over the last couple of years and always very regular.

We only use condoms for contraception as dc2 has always been in the plans and I didn't want to go back onto hormonal contraception at this point. Earlier in the month I had a nasty illness for a couple of days with fever and D&V which I think was around the time I would have ovulated. We had protected sex a couple of days after I was better.

On the day I was due on, I was having period pains and we had run out of condoms so we had unprotected sex once as I assumed that the risk of getting pregnant right before a period would be incredibly low and we are looking to start trying within the next couple of months anyway so decided to take the risk.

Yesterday I realised that I was 3 days late so went and bought a pregnancy test last night, the result was negative. It was very very diluted wee as I drink a lot of water but I still think it would have shown up if I was pregnant 3 days after AF due?

I'm now 4 days late and still no sign of AF I haven't done another test and was planning to do one at the weekend if still not come on.

I guess my question is, do you think the illness could perhaps have possibly delayed my period at all? It's just so unusual for me to be this late even when I've been ill/ stressed in the past. Or do you think my ovulation could have possibly been delayed to around the time we had unprotected sex and that I could maybe be pregnant?

I know we were a little foolish for risking it when I was due but as I said, we are both ready to have another dc anyway and we want to start trying within the next month or two. If I am pregnant it will be happy news for the both of us and if I'm not I think we will start trying after this AF.

Yes that was 5 days ago, the reason I took a test yesterday was just mainly because I'm late and I wasn't sure if the condom could have perhaps failed when we had protected sex which I think was around the 21st. We didn't notice anything though so it seems unlikely.

You might have just ovulated a bit late which would cause a late period. If it did happen to be the right timing for when u had unprotected sex and it did actually cause a pregnancy, the test wouldn't pick it up yet.
Just hang on a while. See if it turns up or test again if it doesn't..

Yes that would make sense as I was so unwell, maybe my body just decided to delay ovulation for a few days. If I don't come on by next weekend I will take another test as it should show up by that point I'm guessing?

I had that happen this month, I only know because I tracked ovulation. It was 5 days later than it should have been for my cycle length. It can happen, whether it’s illness or something else. I had a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes in my neck for 3-4 days, and I suppose my body decided to delay ovulation to focus on the infection.

Thanks for your reply, yes I think that must be what's happened with me too. Still not come on but I've had some period pain this morning so I think it's on the way soon, everything must just have been delayed a few days.

Hi everyone I hope you’re all well!! I’m looking for a bit of advice please.

In June 2021 I had a termination. It was not an decision my partner and I took lightly and I am still processing it.

I am 4 days late on my period. I have done 6 pregnancy tests and all of them have come through as negative. All 6 tests have been taken at different times in the day, one first thing in the morning. I am 18 DPO (according to my period tracking app). The last time I had sex was 24th August 2022 (with protection). Accordingly to my app, I was ovulating that day.

I am just looking for some reassurance that my period is late just because your cycle length can change month to month! The last 4 months my cycle length has been 28 days and my period arrives like clockwork. I’m worried because what if the tests are wrong? What If I am pregnant. I’m not finically or mentally in the right place to have a child right now, and I cannot go through a termination again, I simply couldn’t do it again. My periods are never normally late. My app predicting my period is always right, every single month.I have been experiencing some sort of painful cramps in my lower abdominal area, but cramps were also a sign of early pregnancy for me last year.

My partner and I use condoms as a form of contraception.

@LeaBea2589 I randomly had a cycle last year where I was 7 days late, no idea why! I think it was just a random fluctuation that cycle, if you’ve had that amount of negative tests I would say it must just be your period delayed rather than pregnancy. Hope you’re okay! X

Hey! Thank you so much for getting back to me. Oh wow, our bodies work in mysterious ways don’t they! I did another first response test a couple of hours ago and it was as negative as anything! Tomorrow is a new day, I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to have my period more then I do right now haha! I’ve got the pains and backache so hopefully it’s making its way!

Hi, I’ve been trying for a baby for 6 months now and my periods are like clock work, 25 days each time since coming off the pill in April. I’m 4 days late and testing negative, anyone had the same and turns out they are pregnant? I’m so deflated and keep feeling like I’m going to have a period but nothing comes. Me and my partner had sex around a week ago and noticed spotting on him but no period came. I have noticed white discharge also over the last few days.

I have been having pregnancy symptoms since two months now but testing negative.

I was expecting my period on Thursday 3rd Nov 2022 but have been experiencing something like brownish and wine like light spotting till today sunday 6th Nov that I have been seeing heavy normal period blood......I don't know what is happening as I have been having series of symptoms since last week like leg pain,sore throat, dizziness, slight headache and all.
