So I've been waiting for an MRI scan on my lower back for a while now, as I few months ago I had a lot of back pain and my back kept going into spasm. Recently it's been a lot better and now me and DH are trying for baby number 2. After months of waiting the MRI scan appointment has finally come through for Thursday this week, they've sent me a questionnaire to fill out before hand and have asked if there's a possibility I could be pregnant....well I'm currently in my TWW, ovulated end of last week so way to early to test so yeah I could be pregnant but I don't know and it's too early to tell! Do I cancel my MRI? My back is better but it could get worse again and if I don't get the MRI and my back does go again then I'll really regret not getting the scan. Dunno what to do!

@Carysmatic I believe MRI’s are safe during pregnancy as there’s no radiation. Also it’s probably better to establish any back issue/ health issues prior to pregnancy as these things can worsen during pregnancy. They may want to know as it may affect how they’d position you - eg - if pregnant lying on your front or back for prolonged periods may be problematic.
I would telephone the clinic and speak to the staff and discuss your concerns and the risks/benefits of having the MRI when potentially in early pregnancy and they can reassure you x

@Carysmatic Hi again! Is it an MRI with contrast? I think a standard MRI would most likely be ok but I believe the ones where they need contrast are only done when clinically necessary for a pregnant woman. I would ring the appointment line and ask advice. Maybe ask to postpone and then at least you will know.

I held off cancelling my operation during tww last month and so glad I did because my period came three days before I went in! You won't have the same time to wait though, so maybe call them and see what they say. Very frustrating timing for you. X
