my husband and i are trying for our first baby and I am so new to all these things and have no idea when to test.

I am roughly due my next period in about a week or two give or take. Would this mean I would be unlikely to be pregnant given how soon I am coming to my period?

Hi OP, it depends how long your cycle usually is and when you ovulate! The average cycle is 28 days (starting counting from the first day of your period) , with ovulation happening on day 14 on average, however this can vary for different women.

If you want to get a better idea of when you ovulate in your cycle you could test for a hormone called LH in your wee, this causes the egg to release from the ovary. You can get them on amazon, I really like the easy@home ones and the instructions are really clear!

Sperm can survive for up to 5 days, and an egg for 24 hours after being released if not fertilised, so that means it's possible to conceive for around 6 days of your cycle, so you're best off having sex before, during and just after ovulation.

The earliest possible time a pregnancy test could show as positive is 6 days post ovulation (dpo) , however this is very rare. I've had a faint line at 9dpo before, there's a handy website that tells you the odds of a positive, it comes up if you search pregnancy test statistics.
