Missed period and period cramps for 10 days - am I pregnant?

My periods are usually regular on a 26 day cycle but is now 5 days late. I’ve had period cramps (although not as strong as usual - haven’t needed to take painkillers) for the last 10 or so days but no bleeding. I took a pregnancy test this morning which was negative but have worked out it would’ve been 12 days since the deed was done so maybe too early to tell? I didn’t think I was in my fertile window at the time as it was day 20 of my cycle but now I’ve missed my period I’m not so sure. Any ideas why I could have missed my period other than pregnancy?

How old are you op?
Could that be first sign of menopause?
Are you on any contractions?

RosieRoww · 29/08/2022 11:47

Sorry for typo- any type of contraceptive protection?

BananaLion21 · 29/08/2022 11:47

I’m 28 so I hope not!

No contraception either, I had my implant removed in January and my cycle levelled out pretty quickly after that.

Right, that's strange, I would probably contact your gp.

BananaLion21 · 29/08/2022 11:53

Thanks, I have been thinking I should probably do that!

I've had this issue before, 65 day cycle and never happened again and I was 27 (now 29!).. other than that always a regular cycle! Dr told me to take regular pregnancy tests & to wait it out? My sister had the same issue only hers was about 3 months. Neither of us have any reason behind it and have both gone onto have a healthy children!

Do you know when you ovulated? Sometimes you can have a random late ovulation for no reason at all which will in turn make AF late. It’s how many days since you ovulated that matter when taking a pregnancy test not how many days since you dtd. If you ovulated late this cycle you could be pregnant so too early to show on a test or AF just not arrived yet

allgoodthings84 · 29/08/2022 21:20

You can also sometimes have an anovulation cycle where you don’t actually ovulate which can make a period come later (not always) apparently most women occasionally have an anovulation cycle which is normal if it’s not a common thing

Thanks this is really reassuring! Plot twist: my period came later that day although heavier than usual. Hopefully it was random and nothing untoward behind it!

I’m pretty sure I ovulated on day 14 so was pretty confused to have missed my period given I dtd on a “safe” day 6 days later. Thanks for the advice! 😊

@BananaLion21 are you sure you ovulated then as LP tends to stay the same every cycle? Ovulation can vary which can change the date of AF but LP tends to stay the same

Cm078 · 30/08/2022 08:05

This happened to me cycle before last. Period pains for over a week, came on late (day 35) and this cycle was 29 days. So strange!

BananaLion21 · 30/08/2022 08:40

I can’t be 100% sure but I thought I felt ovulation pain around that time. Didn’t take an ovulation test or anything but as I say, my cycles are usually regular, so it was my assumption I ovulated on day 14 - I could well have had a late ovulation this month though! For whatever reason!

@BananaLion21 just wondering if you've had covid recently? Completely threw my cycles for months! Usually have a 33 day cycle but I had a few 40+ day cycles with short AF and wasn't pregnant - seems I'm all back to normal now thankfully! Hoping you get the result/answer you're hoping for 🤞🏼
