Has anyone ever tried a diy bicarbonate of soda pregnancy test???

Hi all, so we have been ttc for 18 months now and nothing. I am 44 at the moment so not holding out much hope but I have had 2 previous successful pregnancies and births. I am 3 days late and I can’t get to the shops at the moment as my DH has the car and is away for a couple of days. I desperately want to know if I am pregnant so I tried a diy bicarbonate of soda home test - it fizzed and bubbled loads when my urine was added to the bicarbonate - according to the test if this happens it indicates a pregnancy. I know I need to do a proper test, and I will. I know I can’t rely on diy testing with household ingredients but has anyone ever done a diy test with bicarbonate of soda and actually had it confirmed with an actual test?? TIA!!

I’m tempted to try it. If it fizzes for me too, it definitely doesn’t work.

Lol let me know if you do! Just for fun really - just taking the results with a pinch of salt (lol which apparently is a diy test also!) have never tried it before

I'm pretty sure bicarb would fizz if it were weed on anyway?

It’s hogwash sorry. Any number of factors will affect urine acidity, which is what causes the fizzing. Get a test from Amazon / somewhere with NDD or get your walking boots on and get to a shop.

And I know I'm not pregnant.

I'm not sure this is proof that it is a reliable prediction method, or just that I'm really bored.

Moofolk - that’s interesting!! I think I must be bored too to even try it! Thanks for letting me know as I did wonder. Probably just high urine acidity as mentioned upthread but I shall report back if AF arrives or when I get chance to do a test

Oh yes! Give it a go @BecauseICan22 . It didn’t really fizz for me either. It was similar to adding water.

You can get 100 tests on Amazon for less than £10.

Okay, I just tried it too and it bubbled and fizzed, not very helpful though because I don't know if I'm pregnant (although probably not). I also did the beach test (because why not 🤣🤣) and it reacted loads nearly overflowed with foam and started getting hot?! Now I'm thinking maybe I should get a test....
I'm probably not though, but love things like this 🙈🙈 keep us updated op! And good luck!

Just read online that bleach tests can release harmful gases so don't do that lol 🙈 (I'd seen it on YouTube...)

Ok, these are my tests from yesterday. I'm 4 weeks and 3 days.

I'm going to try the bicarb test today. I'll report back! =)

Oh, it's for determining the baby's sex! I'm still going to try it.

Fizz = boy.

No fizz = girl.

Who knew.

I still haven’t tested and I’m now 4 days late. I am having a few tummy grumbles that usually indicate AF is on her way though!

I don’t know what the fizzing was all about but no
pregnancy here, it was nice to dream for a couple of days though!
