Hi everyone,
I need some help/reassurance, we are currently ttc with baby number 2 and we are 6 months in, I know this isn’t a long time but with my first I fell pregnant within 2 weeks of trying. This time round as it’s taken longer I’ve tried lh testing which I do twice a day and only in 1 cycle have I have a positive result but no pregnancy even though we did the deed at the right time. This month I’ve got ewcm but the lh tests are still negative (I have been testing since day 4 to ensure I don’t miss it). Has anyone conceived with negative lh tests? Im pretty sure I’m not missing the surge as I keep testing twice a day through out most of my cycle to ensure I don’t miss it. I’m now feeling a little crazy and just want some support.
Thank you!

Hi OP

Are you holding your bladder for 4 hours before each test? Peak LH is later afternoon/early evening so aim for that time. Are you seeing any progression and darkening in your tests?

scarletisjustred · 24/08/2022 09:39

Yes. Two kits showed nothing. A scan by a gynacologist showed the egg had not "launched". My temperature never rose. I did a test becsuse I was having a dinner party and wouldnt drink if there was any chance I was pregnant. My husband thought I was bring ridiculous and I needed to muck in with the cooking rather than "wasting time" going to buy a test. My regular gynacologist - not the scanning one - was adamant that stringy mucous was the key and I think he was right.

Hi WhiskersPete
I’ve been doing a morning and an afternoon test, previous cycles have become darker but this time all very faint. Yes I’ve been holding by bladder and limiting fluid in take First image is the recent tests and the one below is the only previous cycle where I did think I had a positive result but no luck on the pregnancy side.

The best sign that ovulation has actually occurred is a clear change from ewcm to none, or to drier, thicker discharge (sorry if tmi!)

Oestrogen causes the ewcm, and this can rise and fall throughout the month, even if you don't ovulate. But if you DO ovulate, then the oestrogen drops off very rapidly and the progesterone kicks in, hence the clearly defined change in discharge.

But also, alcohol won't have any affect at all on a just-fertilised egg.

NickyATA · 24/08/2022 10:44

@FallOutPloy thank you I didn’t know that about the changes - I will keep an eye out for a complete change definitely not tmi it’s informations that’s good to know!

Definitely a positive in that first photo.

However my opks didn't quite reach positive the month I conceived number 2 but I didn't have much ewcm that month either. I'm now 28w with number two.

You will get there OP but I know how frustrating it is. We were trying for number two for ages.

@WhiskersPete congrats that’s brilliant! Did it take longer the second time than the first?
Thank you 😊

alcohol doesn’t pass to the baby until 6 weeks when the placenta starts working and there’s a heartbeat so don’t panic about that. Are you doing waking temperatures too? That’ll show a drop when you ovulate.

WhiskersPete · 24/08/2022 12:04

  • congrats that’s brilliant! Did it take longer the second time than the first? Thank you* 😊

Thanks Smile
Yes a lot longer. DD1 was 7 months ttc then breastfeeding messed up my fertility for so long. We were trying actively trying for at least a year but my cycles hadn't completely settled when I eventually did conceive.

Like I said I didn't get a positive opk that month but I did get a temp dip which is the only way you can be sure you have ovulated. Are you temping?

FeedMeSantiago · 25/08/2022 08:29

I'm in a similar scenario, I had 3 days of EWCM CDs 14, 15 and 16, when I expected to ovulate but negative LH strips. LH strips are now a bit darker (but nowhere near positive) but no EWCM anymore.

First month using LH strips, cycle 4 of TTC number 1. My first cycle off the pill was 20 days, second 24 days and third 28 days. So far this fourth cycle I'm on CD20.

I get UTIs and have a to drink a lot to counter that so maybe my urine is too diluted and I missed my peak. I DTD over the EWCM days so hopefully I have a chance this month.

If I go into cycle 5 I'll try the clearblue OPKs.

@WhiskersPete Thank you for sharing, I’m glad I’m not alone.

Not temping at the moment, I started to but my temp seemed so varied every day I gave up as I couldn’t see a pattern. Maybe I need to try again. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed it will be this month.

@CatLadyDrinksGin thank you, I’m not temping at the moment as when I tried my temperature was a bit all over the place so I gave up. Might start again
