How long after coming off the pill did you get your BFP?

Hi all,
Just wanted to gather some stories of how long it took go get a successful BFP after coming off the pill.
I'm cycle #4 TTC and unfortunately I am a chronic over thinker so I get anxious that it hasnt happened yet quite easily. This is in no way intended as a "poor me" post as I totally understand that right now, I've not been at this very long and some ladies have much bigger TTC struggles than I do ❤️
I'm 30, fairly healthy and TTC #1.
Would love to hear your stories and journeys of TTC, no matter how short or long a time it's taken.

Hi it took me 9 months. My hornmones were all over the place

CDD1992 · 19/08/2022 17:48

@Iwanttogo thanks for your reply. Did it take some time for your cycle to regulate? Did you use any extras to try and conceive like temping or tracking ovulation?

Just under 3 years. Only 2 and a half of those actually trying.

Cycles returned to normal straight away.

4 months is really nothing. 80% of couples will get pregnant within 12 months of trying.

LaPufalina · 19/08/2022 17:56

I was 36, had one long weird cycle of about 2 months, one normal one and got pregnant on the second proper one.

germsandcoffee · 19/08/2022 17:59

Two weeks first pregnancy but I suffered unexplained secondary infertility the second time and it took nine years.

tulipsunday · 19/08/2022 18:01

First child - 7 months after coming off combined pill

Second child - 3 months after coming off progesterone only

Good luck OP hopefully will be your lucky month soon x

Blossomandbee · 19/08/2022 18:02

Fell pregnant the first cycle after stopping.
I had been on the combined pill for years

CDD1992 · 19/08/2022 18:17

@tulipsunday i was on the progesterone only and my cycles went back to 28 days (as they had been pre pill) immediately. Fingers crossed it'll happen soon and thanks for your kind words x

I couldn't. I'd have 2 bleeds in one month nothing for 2 months then have a light bleed. Then heavy. It was just all over the place. I don't think my body liked going back to normal. Still I ended up pregnant

Aimee1995 · 19/08/2022 21:17

@CDD1992 I completely understand what you are thinking. I came off the pill in February and took 3 months to get a period. Booked a GP appointment to discuss not having one and then the day before it turned up.
I am now on cycle #3 of properly trying but I am struggling with not being in control of it!! I hope we both get our BFP soon!

FawnFrenchieMum · 19/08/2022 21:20

First cycle for DC1 after being on the pill for around 7 years and second cycle for DC2 (although actually, this was with the implant removed for DC2, not pill)

FarmersWife2019 · 19/08/2022 21:27

I can totally relate @CDD1992. As soon as I came off the combined pill in July 2020 I turned into a chronic over thinker full of anxiety that it would never happen for us. In March 2021 we decided to get a private fertility MOT which showed no concerns and we ended up conceiving the next month (9 months after coming off the pill). I had a copper coil fitted but it fell out a month later and I’ve decided not to go back on any hormonal contraception so next time not sure how long it may take us. Try reading Warrior by Tori Day.

SquigglePigs · 19/08/2022 21:29

It took us a couple of years but we did miss a few months when life got in the way of timings.

Roserunner · 19/08/2022 21:36

I stopped mid cycle so had a mini period and then got a bfp so prob within 6 weeks of coming off the pill.

Goodnewsday · 19/08/2022 21:43

I hate that you’ve had to sort of justify yourself in your post. Trying to conceive is hard and every month when it’s not ‘the month’ it’s absolutely gutting. Having to wait a whole month for it to come round again is soul destroying. Yes some people have been at it longer or have sad stories on their journey but it doesn’t lessen how hard it is for you!

I stopped my pill, took 40 days for a period after the ‘withdrawal bleed’ or whatever it was called after I stopped. I even tried during that 40 days but that can’t be counted as a cycle as I don’t think it would be possible almost during that time. The first proper cycle felt like it was the second (although it really wasn’t) and I didn’t get pregnant on that one. How ridiculous it sounds now but we had tried constantly so I was starting to worry that their MUST be something wrong with me because we’d definitely not missed ovulation. I’d do the ovulation tests, used pre-seed etc, I’m a go hard or go home type! On official cycle 2 we did the same again but this time added in the sperm meets egg method so we just did it every single day even until 2 days after ovulation. That did the trick and I got my bfp at 12dpo 😊 I’m about to embark on the same journey again and stop my pill so hoping it’s as quick this time! Good luck

DogsAndGin · 19/08/2022 21:56

We got our BFP on cycle 4. DD due Dec.

Cycle 1 I was really poorly, so I don’t think that helped. Cycle 2-3 we were really going for it and I think put too much pressure on ourselves. Cycle 4 I thought we’d messed up the dates and was convinced we’d DTD on the wrong day… BFP.

We tried SMEP on cycle 2-3 but found that was too much DTD for us and DH didn’t have any more ‘powder in his musket’ for the days that really counted!

On the month we were successful, I tracked ovulation, using OPKs, an app and BBT. We only DTD on CD10 and CD12 with a positive OPK on CD14 of a 26 day cycle. I cut down caffeine and alcohol massively, and was eating really consciously. We both took a heck of a lot of supplements, and it’s the only cycle where we tried Pre-Seed lube too.

Not sure if it’s relevant, but I stopped seeing my personal trainer in cycle 2, and by cycle 4 I was no longer underweight.

Good luck OP!

CDD1992 · 19/08/2022 22:09

@DogsAndGin thank you for your reply. Hopefully cycle 4 will be lucky for me too!! My DP is the same. Get all happy once my period is over that we can DTD again but by the time fertile week comes around he's running out of steam to do it daily or every other day. Thank you for your support x

@Goodnewsday thank you for your message. I hate that I have to as well but would never want something to be worded in a way that unintentionally struck a nerve with someone. X

@CDD1992 We started ttc in late january. I recently turned 31, ttc#1.

I conceived the first cycle coming off the mini pill. That pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks (had no clue there was an issue, I just went for an early scan) but it took weeks before I started to miscarry and then it ended with surgery in late May. Now onto cycle 3 ttc post miscarriage.

CDD1992 · 20/08/2022 07:18

@Blue2020 so sorry to hear you went through that. Keeping everything crossed this is your month 🤞🏻💖

Three years.

All fertility test normal.

Failed iui. Stopped trying then bingo!!

haylesem · 20/08/2022 07:32

About four to five weeks. So shocked. Kept waiting for my period to come, never did. Kept thinking my symptoms were PMS. It really was a shock (a happy surprise) as we thought it would take ages.

LittleLottle · 20/08/2022 10:48

2.5 years, age 26 both healthy and no found fertility problems, had been on the combined pill 10 years. Didn't go back on contraception after and conceived twice straight away after period returned after birth.

tulipsunday · 20/08/2022 14:14

Really good sign @CDD1992 that your periods regulated quickly. I found DTD early on days leading up to ovulation worked well this time. Think son was conceived on 2 days pre ovulation. Used conceive plus lube don't know if helped.. maybe? Xx
