Do you go by last period date even with a longer cycle?

Hi all, amazingly I got my first BFP this month after over a year of trying and having PCOS, I can’t believe it. My cycles were fairly consistently 33 days and I ovulate on day 18/19, if I go by ovulation date, I’m 3 weeks 6 days, but all the calculators say 4 weeks 4 days because of how long ago my last period was. Which should I say to the midwife if I’m lucky enough to get that far? My period was due tomorrow.

I'd be tempted to lie and alter the last period date so that your ovulation was 14dpo. It just causes all kinds of stress if you have early scans otherwise.

I spent a few weeks convinced I was going to miscarry my son as he was dated a week behind what I 'should' be. Turns out I'd forgotten that they go by the standard 28 day cycle and mine was 35 at the time but lying would have saved me a lot of anxiety.

Hmmm, I'd be tempted to agree with PP if you know that you ovulated at that time!

I was in a very similar position, though took Clomid and nodoby would believe me about how far along I was until I had an early scan, which placed me exactly where I had been saying.

Also - big congratulations! X

Yes, I go by ovulation too - didn't want any bother with scans!

This is brilliant advice, thanks all. I’m not sure why I didn’t think to just lie 😂 I’ll definitely do that as I’m sure of my dates. Have booked a private scan for 7 weeks 1 day according to ovulation date so hopefully will see a lovely heartbeat and have tbe dates confirmed 🤞🤞

Thanks for the congrats, honestly over the moon, although tentatively!!

So you should be 😊

My advice would really be to try and enjoy it as much as possible. I was so nervous after taking so long to conceive and wish I'd just left myself believe!

All the best. X

I had a similar issue with long and irregular cycles but I was tracking ovulation whilst TTC and specified this when booking with the hospital.
If they went by my LMP that would have put me 4 weeks ahead of where I actually was! Thankfully at my dating scan the measurements corresponded perfectly with the ovulation date I gave them so all good.
