The positive OPK if pregnant theory

Hey ladies,

I'm 8DPO and resisting that POAS situ (well trying 🤣)

But read somewhere if you get a positive OPK it means your pregnant and the OPK's are just staring at me just now !! Let me know if this is a lot of BS or somewhat true xx

If you are going to POAS to try to find out if you are pregnant then just make it a pregnancy test, rather than doing an OPK and then tying yourself in knots trying to figure out what it could mean.

Good luck, I hope you get the result you are hoping for.

TTCBABYNO2xx · 28/07/2022 11:03

@pbdr yeah im just holding off with the pregnancy test until my period is due thats why i was just curious 😃

Annecdotally my ovulation tests were positive the two times I was pregnant, both just before my period was due, so about 12 dpo. The first time I had mistakenly used one , and the second it was all I had. My ovulation tests have otherwise only been positive while I ovulate.

redlou123 · 28/07/2022 11:13

OPKs can show a positive if you are pregnant but it could also mean late ovulation (or a second LH surge) so can be more confusing if it is positive. I think it might only show when your HCG levels are higher than would show on a pregnancy test though so might not be positive until later on.

I admit I did use an OPK on my first pregnancy because I was late and didn't have any pregnancy tests in (after 2.5 years TTC I basically stopped doing pregnancy tests as I couldn't face seeing any more negatives). It was a blazing positive and so I got a pregnancy test the next day to confirm it.

TTCBABYNO2xx · 28/07/2022 11:13

@DragonMaster interesting to know thank you!

I might go and pee on an OPK just to keep my patience at bay 🤣 im only 8DPO so unlikely but i'll update ! Xx

A lot of women get dark opks before their period and it doesn't mean you are pregnant or ovulating late, just the specific fluctualtion of hormones at the tail end of your cycle can produce a dark test.
Anecdotally, I took an opk at the end of my last cycle cause I didn't have a hpt and going to the pharmacy is very cumbersome near where I live. And I got a surprisingly dark one. Then again, I have never taken an opk right before a period, so I had no personal data to compare it to, so I read a bunch about it online. I knew realistically it doesn't mean anything but still ended up getting hopeful, as one does while ttc :D, but got my period on the right day so not pregnant.

vegisaurus · 28/07/2022 12:56

Don't know if it is just me but I always got dark OPKs for the few days before my period was due (funnily enough I rarely got a positive OPK round ovulation, hence testing so late in my cycle!) However, during pregnancy I did do an OPK out of curiosity and it was positive.
In short, yes an OPK will be positive if you are pregnant, but it may also be positive if you are not - you need to take a pregnancy test to be sure!

From experience, ovulation tests are useless at detecting pregnancy. I had a negative ovulation test on the same day that my bloods were showing HCG of 1800.

eatsleeprepeat123 · 28/07/2022 19:39

Didn't work for me. No line in OPK and clear line on HCG.

Plus if you get a line you'll just torment yourself are you aren't you so you may as well just take a proper test!

wibblewobbleball · 28/07/2022 19:42

Didn't work for me. Nothing on an ovulation test but a blazing positive on a pregnancy test.

TTCBABYNO2xx · 28/07/2022 19:44

Thanks so much for your comments I ended up doing one just to see and the OPK is positive but like you all nearly say it dosen't matter either way! I'll hold of doing a preg test until my period is due! Thanks all ❤️

I got positives opks when pregnant, both times.

kitty1993 · 28/07/2022 20:03

I got a negative OPK alongside my positive HPT

KatySp · 28/07/2022 20:12

It's the HCG which can make the OPK positive so if it was due to that it should make the pregnancy test positive too. Your LH can rise again before your period

20viona · 28/07/2022 20:16

I got super positive OPKs when pregnant this is how I actually found out as I was irregular.

sarahc336 · 28/07/2022 22:41

The problem is you get a second smaller lh surge prior to af so it could show as positive but just af on its way x

TTCBABYNO2xx · 29/07/2022 13:47

I caved and took a test at 9DPO i think i have a super faint line but maybe just seeing what i want to see! X

Hey All,

I was feeling alot of gas building up in my stomach which caused alot of stomach pains and around 14 dpo (Period was supposed to come at 15DPO) I tested with CB digital ovulation kit which to my surprise was at peak and was showing static smiley(I used OPK once before as pregnancy test and it was negative but this time it was positive). Then after few hours i tested with clear blue digital pregnancy test.
It said Pregnant 2-3weeks.
So, in my case ovulation test picked up hcg.
