Anyone had a negative blood test but turned out to be pregnant?

My period is approx 4 days or so late - irregular periods, but I always get it about 10 days after my LH surge (short luteal phase, I know..!) I'm now on day 40 - the longest I've ever had before is 35 days..

It's about 2 weeks now since my LH surge and still nothing. I had some spotting on Sat morning but it stopped pretty quickly and nothing since. I have had mild period style cramps a tiny bit on Wed/Thurs and more noticeably Fri-Sun.
I am involved in fertility treatment (but had done nothing this cycle) so I went in privately today for a scan and they also did blood tests.

The blood test is negative for pregnancy. They said they would have thought, based on my other bloods/womb that I've only recently ovulated. But I had my LH surge 2 weeks ago, as well as EWCM and pains etc and these pains from the weekend did not feel like ovulation pain. They could see a corpus luteum to show I had ovulated from my right ovary at some point but they don't know how recently.

Womb lining was thick and so they said it was definitely not my period on Sat/now or else the lining would have been shedding. They also said something about it being triple layered which wouldn't be typical for early pregnancy (Google tells me this is more similar to ovulation time also!)

I'm desperately hoping that Sat was implantation bleeding/cramping so, based on everything I've read, I guess that means it's 4-5 days from the implantation before the hormone levels would be high enough to give a positive result? But then I know blood tests are even more sensitive..
The doctors weren't really sure themselves and essentially I need to go back if my period hasn't started within 2 weeks and they'll do it all again.

Anyone had similar experiences and turned out to be pregnant? I know the best thing to do is just wait a few more days and do a pregnancy test (at home) if period hasn't arrived but just so desperate to know now! Obviously all home tests so far have been negative :(

Ahh it's so head wrecking! Did you temp to confirm ovulation? We can have multiple LH surges in a cycle, maybe your first LH surge was when your body tried and failed to ovulate and you did indeed ovulate later. Will they test your progesterone?

Hiya, thanks for the reply. They tested LH, oestrogen and progesterone:

LH =24
E = 334
P = 11.8

Any thoughts?

No I haven't managed to get to grips with the temping - I'll really have to try harder next month. But I just end up being semi awake and rolling around trying to get back to sleep and by the time I remember to do it, I've been awake for a while and think it won't be accurate!

I should add I actually already had two LH "surges" this cycle.. I had a peak LH test on day 22 and then carried on testing positive until day 24 when I then tested negative (although I could still clearly see the lines..!) then I had a further peak on 25, EWCM & ovulation pain around this time, and carried on testing positive until day 27 when I then stopped testing as I thought screw it we've had enough sex, can't keep this up ha and I don't know WHAT is going on with the LH surges! As I said, I've had private fertility treatment before and my hormones have been a bit weird, in particular I've had LH surges where they worried I was going to ovulate early but then I didn't (and times when I did!) so I think for me LH levels can be all over the place (like it also seems from my results yday mentioned above - I think 24 is pretty high again!). I've also had really high LH early on in my cycle.

I had more spotting yday evening and after DTD I was convinced I was coming on my period properly as there was some clear red then. But then nothing overnight- this morning again! So I'm totally bemused. I always have at least two or three days of properly heavy flow and a good few days of normal flow and spotting each side of period. So it's definitely not been and gone..

Hi @Rosiestraws I can’t offer any helpful insight on the bloods I’m afraid, but just wanted to say I’m also experiencing a delay in my period (CD39 currently and usually 28-30) and have had multiple BFNs so also have no idea what’s going. It’s awful being in the dark about it all isn’t it? Hope things become clearer for you soon ❤️

I know this is an old thread. But I'm also in the same boat. So wondered what your outcomes were. I'm currently 10 days late for AF spoke to 3 different doctors the 3rd one was lovely told me to have bloods done 2 days ago they come back negative for pregnancy he Called me again today and got the bloods repeated just to check as I've been having pain in my tummy and pelvic area for a while now. He's gonna make a plan either way depending on what the results say my thought is it definitely can't be pregnancy surely. But me and my partner have been trying for over a year now so bit disheartening. And never been this late for my period before so confusing

Hiya sorry for me I wasn't pregnant. I eventually came on my period a few days later. I do wonder if perhaps the egg was trying to fertilise or whatever when they tested (and therefore not giving off any hormones yet as not implanted) and then I had a chemical pregnancy before my period came properly...but who knows for sure :(

I guess ultimately all you can do is wait longer and see if your period comes (and do the other tests they suggest ofc)

Sorry you wasn't pregnant! It's frustrating. I swear my body is fully playing tricks on me. I still have no period. 11 days late I'm so confused and annoyed. And then stressing myself out over it because until my period arrives we can't start a fresh month 🙈😩
