Which method is best to time ovulation (generally and with pcos)

Hi everyone,

Which method do you find works timing ovulation, generally and particularly with pcos, or did you not time it?

I have the cheap ovulation strips and got positive two days ago, negative today so I assume I ovulated Weds and should have had sex mon-weds.

Does this sound right or would I be better with a fertility monitor (expensive), those four day strips or something else?

Hi!

I also have PCOS and have found that the more expensive Clearblue ovulation tests just don't work for me. I tend to get a false surge before my real one, so the clearblue tells me I'm ovulating when I'm clearly not.

I use the Premom strips as they are pretty cheap which means I can continue to test after a peak to see the line lighten. I also temp which confirms that I have ovulated, as with PCOS you can never be sure!

Generally though, as long as you are having sex every 2-3 days, you are going to be covered!

Thanks. I think about this because my husband doesn't have time and or energy for sex every two days for weeks, if I can prioritise a certain week or so it's more likely to occur and the right time.

Good to hear that its not always worth buying the more expensive ones though.

When my cycles were 3 months long I continuously used OPKs every day or every few days. When the line started getting darker we would have sex just in case. Had a few false starts when I never got a positive but I did eventually and it worked for us.

That's a good idea thanks. Glad it worked for you 🙂

I have pcos and I use the easy@home OPKs. I'm currently on clomid so I'm guaranteed ovulation but they still work on my unmediated cycles (I tend to ovulate naturally every other month)

Hello, another PCOS lady over here.
The thing that has really helped me was cheapy OPKs and BBT, I always said I wouldn't do the latter as I'd get obsessed but it's reassuring to know I've ovulated each month.

I do OPKs a few days before I think my fertile window is and do two a day when it's close as I have a very quick LH surge - then the temping confirms if I have actually ovulated.

We just dont have time to have DTD every other day, so we tend to enjoy it whenever outside of FW and do every other day (sometimes twice a day!) during FW.

Oh I use easy@home ones too.
