Day 21 bloods & clomid

Hello!

hoping someone understands the day 21 test better than I do! 🙈

I used clomid 50mg last month days 2-6 and had a day 21 blood test (done on day 22 as 21 was a Sunday) to confirm if ovulation occurred or not. I had my results back showing 80nmol. The doctor said anything over 28 would be positive for ovulation. I was happy it appeared to work but then my period came after a 33 day cycle. I was expecting 29 day cycle, especially after being told I must have ovulated following the test.

did I have the test done too early? Or did the reading of 80nmol mean I had ovulated when I should but then had a long luteal phase?

thank you xx

Did you have a monitoring scan on day 10? Or did you track ovulation with OPKs/bbt? It's probably more than likely that you ovulated later than you thought?

Rainbowchasing2022 · 26/06/2022 13:56

Didn’t have any tracking scans unfortunately .. or use OPK as was told they don’t work properly with PCOS. Just had intercourse every two days so it couldn’t be missed 🙈

I did think that but then wondered why the result showed ovulation if I had the bloods at the wrong time. The doctor was sure I had ovulated based on the 70nmol. But not sure if the result would have been higher if I’d gone 7 days before next period or if I just had a long LP 😬 x

At 70nmol you definitely ovulated. Your luteal phase was probably just a bit longer because your progesterone was so high

pcosandme.x · 26/06/2022 14:11

@Rainbowchasing2022 I highly recommend asking for a monitoring scan, I have one on CD10. It means just incase you get OHSS or too many follicles (we are high risk of twins or more) they will need to cancel the cycle if there are more than two follicles.

You also take clomid days 2-6, you ovulate 5-10 days later so it's possible you ovulated later that you thought. I take days 1-5 and ovulate on day 13/14

My progesterone is tested on 5dpo and also 6dpo and it's normally around 40-50 :) I use OPKs too 🫢 x

Rainbowchasing2022 · 26/06/2022 14:22

@polkadotpixie thank you. I wasn’t sure if I definitely had if I caught it at the wrong time but doctor seemed sure.

@pcosandme.x do you feel the OPKs work for you and are accurate? I was told they cpild
end up showing positive and not actually ovulating and then the positive again later in the cycle so they didn’t prove useful with PCOS. I may try them if you have had a different experience just so I know!

my clomid is prescribed through GP who wouldn’t offer the tracking. I haven’t had any symptoms other than flushes but it is true I’m unaware of follicle numbers etc. I did question it but was told it’s unlikely To
get OHSS from the lowest dose. Hopefully right 🙈 xx

@Rainbowchasing2022 they seem to be working for me although I'm not pregnant yet 🤣 I'm on 100mg currently. I can't believe some GPs don't track, as long as you feel ok xx

Rainbowchasing2022 · 26/06/2022 14:47

@pcosandme.x so glad they are working for you! 😍 I only get to try 3 months but no luck yet. How many rounds are you doing? Xx

@Rainbowchasing2022 I've been given 6! So got two more after this one. Hopefully won't need them 🫢 what's your plans after this? Xx

Rainbowchasing2022 · 26/06/2022 14:55

@pcosandme.x 🤞🏼Got everything crossed for you. Did you start on 50 and then get increased? Sending you all the luck in the world for this cycle.

no idea. Pay privately possibly. Had a MC in March which was a natural pregnancy but have PCOS & endo. Feel like it won’t ever happen xx

I was on Clomid doing the blood tests and calling for the result. I'm sorry I cannot remember the dose or my readings but I got pregnant on the second round. That was 8 years ago. My second I feel pregnant a year last without Clomid. I suppose it depends on what your "issues" are. For me I never ovulated apparently so need the leg up.

Rainbowchasing2022 · 26/06/2022 16:17

@ScruptiousBears congratulations! So happy it worked for you. My GP won’t even run the bloods again this month they said as it worked last month no need 🙄🙄 great!

I don’t ovulate by myself. Well. I was told that 2 years ago but then got pregnant naturally so must have at least once! It ended in MC though after seeing a heartbeat. I then had a period following the MC and started clomid after the during my second period post MC. Did you only need 50mg? I do have PCOS though and endometriosis but open tubes so endo causing no issues there xx
