Pregnant or symptom spotting?

Myself and my partner have had unprotected sex for the past 4 years, always using the withdrawal method (I know it’s not the safest) and so far, we’ve had no pregnancy scares..

however.. on my current cycle my ovulation/fertile window fell around the 16th June. we had unprotected sex on the 11th - with no withdrawal, and again on the 12th, 13th and 17th (all using the withdrawal method)

on sunday just gone (19th) I was having cramps (similar to period pains) in my lower stomach which lasted about 15-30 minutes. and then today, I have been having pain in my lower/middle back, aswell as what feels like period cramps in my lower stomach. I also feel very gassy, compared to usual. I’ve not had any nausea or changes in my breasts.

I have had a negative pregnancy test this morning, i know its very likely it would be too early to detect if this is anything relating to pregnancy.

any advice? Could I just be overthinking this?

Yep. Positive!

@Gem890 it would all depend what day you actually ovulated. Sperm can wait inside up to 5 days

Gem890 · 21/06/2022 16:14

@allgoodthings84 I don’t use any kind of ovulation tests. I use an ovulation tracker based off my cycle dates and symptoms (which I know isn’t realiable). But based off that and my symptoms it was the 16th

If it was 16th it’s just about possible from the time you didn’t withdraw. If withdrawal has always worked for you and your partner did it properly then it’s likely to be that time but it could be any time if any sperm entered

I couldn’t go by any apps I don’t ovulate on the dates they estimate so use opk until I get a more accurate idea but some people do ovulate when the apps say

Although if you ovulated 16th (same as me) you would only be 5dpo so any symptom is more likely not pregnancy related yet (although it could be) as implantation is usually 6dpo-12dpo with the most common being 8-9dpo and you wouldn’t feel actual pregnancy symptoms until implantation has occurred. Not that you couldn’t be pregnant just that at the moment the symptoms are unlikely to be pregnancy but could be very soon

It does look positive to me as it’s a thick line and I can see it! Could you try a pink dye FRER in the morning? They are more obvious. I would imagine you ovulated before 16th though as 5DPO is too early to get a positive

allgoodthings84 · 21/06/2022 18:45

@Kkn sorry I got confused as this is someone else’s thread so thought they had asked this question and didn’t click the username. Sorry @Gem890 ignore my above comment

That would be too early for me to show any symptoms OP, and I have found that premenstrual symptoms are often very similar to pregnancy symptoms. I have found FRER tests to be the best and most accurate when you're testing, so maybe wait a couple of days and try one of those? Good luck
