Is it possible to conceive aged 44 or am I just dreaming?

Hi all, me and DH have been TTC for 12 months now, I’m aged 44 and he is 47. We have 2DC already and are desperate for a third, it has been 10 years since my youngest was born. Just wondering if anyone has had any success stories that they would like to share about conceiving aged 44+ TIA

It’s not impossible but it’s highly unlikely, and the risk of miscarriage is going to be very high also

Most fertility clinics would only treat you at your age if you used donor or frozen eggs

Agree with SW1

You could well conceive, but if you do you're more likely than not to have a miscarriage, so you do need to be emotionally prepared for that.

Have you been trying for the last ten years or were you using contraception until recently?

We managed to (I’m 43) from one careless moment and my advice would be make sure your nutrition is as good as possible : try videos from ‘Nourish by Melanie’ on you tube, I’ve fortunately not had a miscarriage but for eg there are certain good nutrients to help minimise the danger I believe.
I took a good multi by Wild Nutrition but there are other good brands too

Trying for the last 12 months. Before that not trying.

Of course it's possible but unlikely tbf. I had my third at 40 (gap of10 years). I had 3 friends the same age trying for their first. All successful but none of them managed a second trying from 42 plus.

Its possible im 36 and i have a little brother who is 9 my mam had him at 44 after having me at 17 and my other brother at 26 and she said it was the easiest of her pregnancies

Lia73 · 12/06/2022 00:08

It is possible. I got pregnant at 44 and a half with my second child, 23 years after my first child was born! We had been trying for 6 years. I went for tests and had to have a mastectomy to remove fibroids and also had a polyp removed. I feel that is what stopped me getting pregnant sooner as I got pregnant around 9 months after my operation. I had given up by the time it happened so it was a surprise! You just never know. I'm on a group where a lot of women have gotten pregnant up to age 45 but dont hear of that many after age 46. I wish you luck.

Lia73 · 12/06/2022 00:12

So sorry, that should say myomectomy, not mastectomy. I couldn't delete and restore my post but that's what I meant to write.

I had my dd just shy of my 45th birthday (first child). No issues with the pregnancy or dd but did go into perimenopause within 2 years. Assumed at my age it wasn't possible so wasn't taking precautions, my midwife said it happened quite often. Friend's gynae consultant OTOH was amazed that I'd had a baby without any assistance.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/06/2022 00:13

I did.

sunnydayys · 12/06/2022 00:24

Small chance of a successful pregnancy sorry

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 12/06/2022 00:34

Me and my sisters and sister in law have had babies in 40s. Latest babies conceived At 48. No problems. No miscarriages.

BorrisjohnsonsJohnson · 12/06/2022 04:30

I mean no harm in trying!

Maybe send me some pics of the progress too?

easyday · 12/06/2022 05:49

I had mine at 41 and 43, conceived after about four months trying. Very regular cycle.
A friend, who has PCOS and was told very unlikely to get pregnant at 45, did exactly that a few weeks later.
Another had hers at 47. She married at 29 and said they took a 'if it happens it happens' tack and it finally did!
So it can happen, but it is less likely.

SmiledWtherisingsun · 12/06/2022 06:35

Of course it's possible op. Good luck?

SmiledWtherisingsun · 12/06/2022 06:35

(Meant to be a !!! Not a ?)

🙄

Conkersareback · 22/11/2022 06:49

@Chasingclouds100 but you've got four, how are you desperate for a third?
