Positive pregnancy test followed by a negative.

I wonder if anyone can help.

I took a pregnancy test yesterday evening, my period is due in 4 days, I’m not sure what made me do it but something did. I think I’ve just been feeling extra tired this past week.

to my surprise it was faintly positive (i‘ll try and attach a photo). I wasn’t necessarily TTC but it wouldn’t be unwelcome.

I couldn’t stop thinking about it last night, as I’m sure you can imagine. But today I have had 2 negative results. The test came back positive almost straight away last night.

I haven’t told my husband yet, and don’t really want to start that conversation if there isn’t anything to be concerned about. I know I’m jumping the gun but any advice or guidance would be really appreciated.

thanks in advance.

I probably should add that both lines have faded since yesterday on the original test. But the positive line was fainter than the control line.

Did you dip/splash over the max line? I can see that there is a liquid line all down the edge of the test from the green bit, that has also discoloured the edge of the control line, and has caused a bit of dye bleed all the way down the test section.

flooding the test could cause an inaccurate result.
Retest with a branded test using FMU in a couple of days. Good luck.

I don’t think I did, but I suppose I wasn’t paying massive amounts of attention and so could possibly have. I think I’ll wait now to see what happens over the next couple of days.

I think, if overnight has taught me anything, I think I would probably be happy should I be pregnant in the future.

thanks for your advice x

Could be just early or might be a chemical. Just wait and test again

stairgates · 07/06/2022 16:24

That does seem very positive doesn't it! How many dpo are you do you think?

SophT27 · 07/06/2022 16:31

Roughly 13 DPO.

I thought it looked positive, I was a little bit excited, but now I’m trying to not get my hopes up.

AF is due at the end of the week so I think I’m just going to have to wait and see.

I’d never heard of a chemical pregnancy until I started deep diving into Google after the negative test this morning.

thank you both for replying.

The line looks about right for 13dpo, hopefully the other tests are just faulty, dp you have any more? Good luck!

Bluepolkadots42 · 07/06/2022 16:47

Looks.positive to me OP- congrats! Just to add when I was pregnant with both my children I always had darker lines on v early tests (so before AF due) in the late afternoon/evening compared to tests done with FMU.

SophT27 · 07/06/2022 17:07

I have one more test, but can buy more tomorrow.

I think, as AF is due in 4 days I might wait it out (as agonising as that will be). And I’ll maybe test again on the weekend. Although I’m not sure I’ll be able to wait that long.

thank you both.

I wanted to hop on here and update as there are so many threads like this without an outcome. I believe this was a chemical pregnancy as AF did appear around the time she was due. It was weird as I was so much more emotional than usual and although I wasn’t TTC, I felt really sad when AF did arrive. I’m 35, I’ve always been of the mindset that I would be happy to have children but also happy to not, but I think this experience has made me feel like I actually do want a baby now.

I had a chemical last month too and I think I've seen you are 6/7dpo on another thread and have potential implantation signs? I am 5dpo and hoping for implantation signs too. Hoping you get your BFP this month!!

SophT27 · 26/06/2022 11:07

@Angie2018 today is 7DPO for me now and I’ve had no further spotting or bleeding but I still have pain in my lower abdo and lower back. I’m currently thinking it’s probably too good to be true to be honest, I really don’t want to get my hopes up. How are you feeling? I really hope you get your BFP this month xx

@SophT27 it does sounds really promising for you! I had that last month at 10dpo and I was pregnant but it resulted in a chemical but totally unrelated to those symptoms. Sounds like you have implanted!! The pains are normal too I also had to use for a couple of days, it's your uterus contracting as it's got a foreign body growing in it - it's totally normal in early pregnancy! Please keep me posted I am super hopeful for you! I feel ok thank you, I am 5dpo today, had minor low cramps yesterday but nothing since and it's too early for me anyway. I'm hoping over the next few days i get implantation symptoms! Thank you I hope you get your BFP too xx
