Can you get pregnant on the pill when taking it correctly?

OK so....

Husband and I dtd 4 days ago. Ever since I've been feeling sick after eating, tingling nipples, weird (very mild) period type cramps.

Last time I felt like this I was pregnant. I know they say you can't get symptoms before implantation, but I did with both of my last pregnancies. I knew I was pregnant within 48 hours.

I've also just had covid for the first time.

Not worried if I am pregnant, but really confused about why I feel like this. Can you fall pregnant on the pill? Or is it covid messing with my periods? I don't usually get any PMS symptoms until I'm 2 weeks into my pill packet...I was only 6 days in when this started 🤦‍♀️

Yes you can.

DuchessOfSausage · 06/06/2022 08:29

Yes, unlikely but not impossible

Vsirbdo · 06/06/2022 08:30

Yes unlikely but possible

Afterfire · 06/06/2022 08:30

It’s unlikely but possible but more likely that covid has screwed up your body a bit and is doing funny things with your hormones.

Have you had vomiting or diarrhoea recently? Any medication?

Zippy1510 · 06/06/2022 08:30

I’ve been feeling nauseous after eating since having covid for the first time (weirdly wasn’t nauseous at the peak of it/ this seems to be an after effect). So it could be that.

Nope, no vomiting other than I've started being a tiny bit sick in last 24 hours as nausea got a little worse. Still have positive covid test 2 weeks in...But feel much better and even went for a run over the weekend. So not sure why covid would be making me sick now 😒 I didn't have sickness as one of the initial symptoms (got the cough, breathlessness etc). No new medication. All a bit odd. I suspect its a weird covid thing.

Ahhhhh OK! That sounds likely! It just seemed so weird that I wasn't sick at the peak either...But if its happened to you then its likely a weird covid thing 🙄

If you are on the mini pill do you always take it in the 3 hour window?

Do you take st John's wort?

Nope, not on the mini pill, don't take St John's Wort. Very strange. Probably covid 🤦‍♀️

Surely you know you can? You can get that info from the back of the packet. Most people have had ‘no contraception is 100% drummed into them!

it’s about a 1-2% chance if you take it absolutely correctly.

that is way early for pregnancy symptoms though, not actually possible to just ‘know’ that soon.

Createcomets · 06/06/2022 08:50

Despite what you think you CAN know that soon. With both of my last pregnancies I was physically being sick 48 hours after conception. I even went to the Dr, she tried to find out what was wrong (because I was getting very concerned that I couldn't keep food down) and after about a week she said "I think you're pregnant. Try and wait a week and let me know".

Guess what? I was pregnant! 🤦‍♀️
You can't tell me it's not possible, it's happened twice. And all of my family were quite concerned at how much I was bring sick.

It’s not scientifically possible OP, not just 48 hours after. I know lots of people will disagree. I read on here once a woman felt the ‘pop’ of the sperm meeting the egg…

you must have a very understanding doctor to have got an appointment after a couple of days of throwing up food!

Createcomets · 06/06/2022 09:22

I'm not saying I felt anything like that. I'm saying I was sick. After every meal, for 2 weeks at least (actually it went on through most of both pregnancies). I can't even make up being sick?! Whether it's scientifically possible or not is irrelevant. I agree, it shouldn't be. But it happened. So there's obviously some weird reason that my body knows something is going on when I'm pregnant.

I mean this with as much compassion and kindness as possible (because I have no idea what's going on in your life) but none of your comments have been in any way helpful. They're mostly derogatory and completely dismissive. Perhaps you could try and change that.

I literally knew when he finished in me seriously like a knew and was right so it actually is 100% true u can just know

Hi, this isn't my own experience (I'm currently TTC) but a friend of mine got pregnant whilst on the pill, and she said she was really vigilant with taking it on time every day, not missing it etc, so although it is unlikely, it is definitely possible and happens!

If you think you could be pregnant, you know your body best at the end of the day! Hope you get the result that you want :)
