Will diet coke damage your egg and change DNA

I have tested positive by using different brand of test stripes since 31 May, those are very faint lines. My body reacted before 31th, I was sweating, some pimples appeared on my face, and I was very tired.

On 2nd June my body reactions disappeared, and on the 3rd I started bleeding until now. I'm not sure if it's period bleeding or miscarriage bleeding, the blood is much less than my normal period. I test again on the 3rd morning, and the result showed almost blank.

If I was pregnant, the pregnancy must have gone already. I feel very frustrated because I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke, I eat everything organic, and I'm in my early 30s with a good BMI. The only bad habit I had is I like to have a bottle of diet coke every day for 3 years (I have already given it up since last month). I learned about aspartame in diet coke will damage egg equality and change your DNA. I don't know if this is true. If I give up diet coke, how many months do I need to prepare before the next pregnancy?😭

Sorry I have no advice but I was wondering this today. I drink coke zero. When you say a bottle do you mean a small 1 portion bottle or a big 1.5litre sort of bottle a day?

I'm TTC too and it'd be nice to know if the aspartame is affecting my egg quality. Hope we find answers.

ttj99 · 04/06/2022 23:50

How long have you been drinking? I used to drink 335ml one everyday. I have already give it up and will never drink coke zero again.

We only know very limited knowledge of our boby, even the GP will laugh at me if I say aspartame will damage cells. I just want to exclude the only bad habit.

I've never heard of the link.
I drank Pepsi max a lot being pregnant but not now I'm pregnant with twins.

PinkButtercups · 04/06/2022 23:54

I meant before being pregnant.

JaggedLittleKrill · 04/06/2022 23:56

I wasn't aware of any link and drank litres of the stuff daily when TTC my DC (all straightforward pregnancies, births and healthy little people so far, touch wood).

ttj99 · 04/06/2022 23:56

Pepsi doesn't contain aspartame but coke zero

No of course it doesn't change your DNA.

That's funny, I came on here to say that I have always drank far too much of the stuff and have got (healthy, identical) twins! Maybe there's a link there Grin

What on earth have you been reading??
Of course it doesn't change your dna
Step away from Google for goodness sake!

FiveNineFive · 05/06/2022 00:02

....it's not radioactive 🙄

I don't know of any science behind it but I drank a lot of Diet Coke every day prior to conceiving my Son and all through my pregnancy, he's not long turned 1 and is a very healthy little boy and was a dream baby!
I also continued to drink Diet Coke daily after he was born and I accidentally got pregnant again when he was just 5 months old, I'm 34 weeks pregnant now with baby 2 and she's doing really well, no complications.

I had a MC 6 months prior to conceiving my Son, I'd actually been eating healthier at the time and hadn't had any fizzy juice including Diet Coke for months.

It is heartbreaking losing a much wanted baby OP but you're looking for answers that you won't get, unfortunately these things happen at random and can happen to anybody

I'm sorry you experienced what seems like to ne a chemical pregnancy. Unfortunately many women TTC suffer at least one, some don't even realise because it might just feel like a heavy late AF if you don't test. But it's a loss nonetheless, so take all the time yoi need to heal.
That being said, while I'm sure aspartame aren't healthy at all, TTC or not, there's no explanation as to why a chemical pregnancy happens. My GP thinks it's most probably a chromosome issue, so something wasn't alright and the body rejects so to speak. At that stage there's nothing you can do. Keep in mind that even under perfect circumstances there's only a 25 - 30% chance of a pregnancy each month.
If there is at least one good thing to say about it, is that you know you've ovulated. That helped me a lot when I was going through the same. I wish you all the best on your journey!🤞

Bells3032 · 05/06/2022 00:06

Erm no. There's is zero evidence that coca cola can affect a pregnancy and change your dna. Caffine however isn't good for you in pregnancy but I thjnk its something like over 6 cans a day thafs a problem but I'd move to decaffeinated if you can).

Unfortunately chemical pregnancies (what if seems you had) are really common and happen in about a third of pregnancies. You only have to wait til

Next month to try again

FictionalCharacter · 05/06/2022 00:30

Absolutely not. Chemicals that alter your DNA are not allowed as food additives.

Aimee1987 · 05/06/2022 00:50

Aspartame is classed as safe for consumption by both the NHS and the fda.
As @FictionalCharacter said chemicals that alter DNA are by their very nature carcinogenic and therefor not permitted as food additives.

Misscarriage happen in 25% of pregnancies alot of the time the reason is unknown but very early miscarriages are often thought to occur due to the fact that the foetus is not viable.

On the other hand with those timing it could also be implantation bleeding.

Icansleep · 05/06/2022 09:32

It won't have anything to do with the Coke op

I know you're probably looking for reasons and that's totally understandable, but it wouldn't have been anything you did or drank etc

Don't forget lots of women get pregnant while they're drinking alcohol, taking drugs etc

Drinking that amount of Diet Coke is not great for you though anyway so start scaling back now if you can

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 05/06/2022 09:42

I drink diet coke nearly every day and have done since I was a teen. I have 3 DC and fell pregnant very easily each time.

PinkButtercups · 05/06/2022 11:05

@AugustSeptemberOctober must be something in the fizz 🤣🤣
