If you ovulate ON your period

Taking ovulation strips. It's confirmed by them that I ovulate WHILST on my period.

It is strong on day 2, 3, and begins to fade on day 4 of period, and fades to nothing on day five when period ends.

Cycle is 28 days on the dot and four days on the dot.

When is the best time to have sex to conceive? Does anybody know? I find it strange that I ovulate on my period. I have one child already but I was on the pill when they were conceived and I don't remember where in my cycle I was.

Have you continued to use the ovulation strips throughout the rest of your cycle, to identify any other LH surges? Have you confirmed that you actually ovulate then by temping? Ovulation strips don't confirm ovulation. It would be very odd to ovulate during a period. 😯

I have a thermometer. Thank you for spoonfeeding me as I hadn't actually thought to do that. I'll look that up.

I've never done them before and my child is now 7. I'm over 40.

Do you think this could be a new thing to do with perimenopause?

Are you able to offer any further insight as to why it's bad by any chance?

It's okay. We are TTC but we realise it could be too late and that's okay :)

It’s more likely that you have a double peak in the month. Some women have an additional surge of LH just before their period.

I see, thank you. I need to do them daily. Yes, I am being crap at this.

A luteal hormone surge happens just before a period.

There's absolutely no biological logic in ovulating during menstruation. There would be no endometrial tissue for a fertilised egg to implant into.

Regenbogen22 · 29/05/2022 16:49

@getoutofheree if you start temping it has to be a basal body temperature thermometer that shows 2 decimal places (sorry if that's what you already have!) and it has to be done exactly the same time every day, before you even get out of bed. Just in case you didn't know, sorry if you know all this!

To confirm ovulation you're looking for a biphasic chart that shows lower temps before, and higher temps after ovulation.

No, no. I didn't know this. I've never been serious about conception before.

Thank you for the information.

Is there an easier way? Like, doing it every three days surely that will hit an egg?!

I mean of course, you could do it every two days for the entire cycle/month if you like!

Many prefer to know when to get the timing spot on though, and concentrate their efforts during those few days of their fertile period.

And others like to confirm ovulation if they have wonky cycles, or PCOS or if they just want to know!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 29/05/2022 20:46

If you have a regular 28 day cycle then if you have sex at least every 2nd day from day 8 to day 18 then you'll definitely hit it (so day 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18)

as others have said, the tests are strong cause LH rises just prior to period, not cause you are ovulating during period.
