IVF - embryo's made it to day 5 but not blasts?!

Just had my first egg transfer (so keeping fingers crossed), but am a bit confused and the clinic is now closed so wanted to check and see if anyone had this themselves.

we had 18 eggs collected, 14 fertilised and 10 have made it to day 5. But the clinic said only one has become a blastocyst so they will give the other 9, 24 hours to get themselves together (my wording not theirs)

but I am a bit confused as what’s the difference between the 9 that haven’t become blastocysts and the 4 that didn’t make it to day 5, can they still become a blastocyst on day 6? Is this a worry thing thing that they haven’t made it to the right level by day 5 so to expect the worst and only having one viable embryo.

any guidance or support would be greatly appreciated as I lay here thinking happy thoughts 😳

They can still very much become a blasto. Some just need that next 24 hours.

I had afew that weren't blast on day 5 but were on day 6.
They were frozen and one of them became my little boy.

So I would say your 9 Defo have possibilities to come blast.

The other 4 won't have has many cells as they would expect to see on day 5 so the probability of them turning to blasts will be low.

My only viable embryo on day 5 was a morula (the stage it usually gets to on day 5) but transferred anyway and it must have got to blast on day 6 once transferred as she is a lovely 18month old now - good luck!

Sorry that should day the stage it usually gets to on day 4

Thank you for the reassurances, will be keeping everything crossed not just for this embryo to stick but for the others to sort themselves out

Many of them could be fine, they just use all the indicators they have to get the best one
