Supplement for men over 40 to reduce risk of Down Syndrome?

Someone told me some time ago that there was some kind of supplement that men over 40 who are TTC can take to reduce chances of abnormalities, especially Down Syndrome. Does antone know anything about this? Can't find anything online about it and don't want to ask the person who told me about it as they will know I'm TTC!

this doesn't sound right....Downs syndrome is becuase of chromosome abnormality that happens at the moment of conception - not something you can prevent. Its not even inherited on the whole, i think less than 2% of cases have familial tendencies.

Just healthy eating and loking after yourself is the best guarantee you can have. if you want a male supplement, Santogen do a mens and womens double pack of ttc/pg vitamins.

I thought that the age of the parents can be a factor too. That's why older mothers have more tests for it. They've also recently found out that the age of the father is also a factor.

its mostly women over 40, to do with the quality of the eggs i think.

However the figures are birth-rate figures- it is suspected (or so i read) that more younger woman (say 20's) get pg with DS babies but go on to terminate after diagnosis.

I don't think a particular vitamin or mineral can change chromosomes. (remembering nurse training-am not making it up!)

i do think its sensible to think about looking after yourself before and after pg though Good Luck!

Thanks scorpio1. I did wonder whether this was possible when my friend told me.
Won't put DP on any strange diet/ supplements then!
