Hello!

Just interested in other peoples experience and any positive story when ttc conceive on metformin.

A bit of back story… I’m 22 and found out I have PCOS this month. I stopped the mini pill back in sept 2021 with the aim of trying to start a family, after originally going on it for irregular periods when I was 18. I have never had a regular cycle, so I’m even unsure whether I can ovulate naturally.
It’s now May 2022 and have not had a period since stopping the pill, so no period for about 8 months.
I went to the GP in Feb 2022 and got referred to an endocrinologist. After numerous scan and blood tests I was finally told I have pcos which wasn’t really a shock as I do have many symptoms of it. I am not overweight and have a healthy bmi which is a positive. I am due to start slow release metformin this week on 500mg and eventually work my way up to 2000mg a day if I can stomach it.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had luck with metformin to get their periods back after not having them for so long and any positive experiences of getting pregnant using metformin!

Thankssss

Hi @daisy0507! Didn't want to read and run, I haven't got any personal experience of metformin but I have got PCOS, diagnosed after stopping the combined pill in December 2020. I had a period in Feb, May and then November last year.
Are you taking any other supplements? I started taking inositol in November and within 3 weeks I had my first period in 6 months and they've been fairly regular since then (every 27-37 days).
I'm sure they'll be lots of others ladies that have tried metformin and can give you their experiences but I know how upsetting it is to not have a period for such a long time and wanted to share what seems to have helped me! X
