LMP / Ultrasound EDD

Hi everyone. Sorry a bit of a random one and I’ve got myself more confused by googling.

Basically to be entitled to maternity pay I needed to wait until the Monday 2nd May to start TTC, originally my TOTM was due on the 2nd of May so this worked perfectly as this would have been date of LMP. However, I came on early on the 29th April (the Friday) and so technically this would be LMP, I also have short cycles of roughly 24 days which I did not think mattered, but now when I’ve looked on the nhs due date calculator apps it estimates my due date (IF I was so lucky to get pregnant first try which I know would be a huge IF!!) to be a week too soon for the additional mat pay.

I have been desperate to start TTC and have been so excited for this month to start, have taken pre conception vits for 3 months in preparation and now I feel really deflated as the pay makes a huge difference and we would need it.

My question is - is the ultrasound at 12 weeks more accurate for calculating EDD than LMP? Like I have only just finished my period and haven’t ovulated yet so surely my due date wouldn’t be 40 weeks from Friday the 29th like LMP would put it? Or would it?

Sorry if this doesn’t make sense, I have tried to Google it in every which way.

Basically - how much does EDD change compared to LMP at scan?

I am guessing the real answer is that if I need the maternity pay then really I will need to wait till next month :-(

The other reason I feel deflated is realistically I can only try in May / June as I am a bridesmaid next May in Cyprus for my absolute bestie who has been through so much and still gone above and beyond for me, and I wouldn’t want to travel with babe less than 12 weeks ish.

Thanks for reading xox

You get an EDD at 12w scan and then that stays regardless of when your LMP was or when you think you ovulate. Some people will be on time, earlier or later than what they thought its impossible to say. I would suggest waiting a month just in case!

Thanks @Purplerain1144 I know the reality is my question can’t be answered for a definite and that likely means I need to wait. I’m not sure what I am hoping for lol! The whole LMP for the due date has confused me so much as how could I be pregnant then!! But I understand that most of the medical world is ‘grey’ areas lol!

You specifically state that you really need the maternity pay, so I would wait one more month. It's entirely possible that you get pregnant the first month of trying, and also entirely possible that the due date, based on first day of LMP, stays the same.

I would not stop TTC for a year based on a friend's wedding though, sorry, but you can't put your life and wishes on hold for a year for that.
