Trying to Conceive - After Contraceptive Implant Removal

rayn911 · 22/04/2022 19:02

Hey Everyone,
My partner (31) and I (26) are trying to conceive,
I had my contraceptive implant removed after having them since I was 16. I had it removed in November and I have been tracking my fertile window using a tracking app. We have been having regular sex during my ovulation days. I have been taking Folic Acid since February.
I still haven't fallen pregnant and I was just looking for any advice that you anyone may have?
Also how long after having the implant removed did it take for any of you lovelies to fall pregnant?
Many thanks xx

Had mine removed in July, no pregnancy yet however I have only had one period in that time 🤦‍♀️

I had my implant removed in June but still haven't had a period... I think it can take longer than expected for your body to get back to normal, particularly after many years of having the implant in (I had mine in for 9 years on and off).

Have your periods restarted since having it removed?

curliegirlie · 23/04/2022 12:24

I had mine removed in early October, switched to the combined pill, as I hated the implant plus was considering trying for another so didn’t want anything long lasting. Then, at the start of this year got a bit flaky at taking my pill properly and found out I was pregnant in March. It sadly ended in early MC, but the BFP was a shock, as it had previously taken me over a year to conceive. But the implant clearly came out of my system pretty well here!

Thank you for replying!
I always had regular periods while having the implant anyway! So when I had it removed these last few months they have been regular, although some lasting longer than others!
Hopefully you will have yours back soon!! 🙂

Thank you for replying, it's good to know that it can sometimes be quick to come out of your system, I guess we are all different! Again thank you for sharing and I really hope you're okay!♡

Only took me a couple of months after implant removal however I was actually ovulating the week after my tracker app told me I was, we were just lucky we happened to have sex then too. Have you tried ovulation sticks just for check you are ovulating when your app says?

Clairey3010 · 23/04/2022 15:08

I had mine out on the 22nd march, had a weird 2 day period last week so just hoping I get into some sort of regular cycle now, with both of my daughters I conceived within 2 weeks of having my implant removed, I may just have been lucky but it does happen quickly for some

Oh wow!!
Thank you for the advice! I have recently bought some ovulation sticks but haven't yet tried them when the app says I'm ovulating! But definitely will give this a go! Thanks again!

Hi everyone,
So i was 16 when I had my implant in and have had others put in when taking them out.im.currently 28 years old. I had my implant taken out in Feb 2022 then I went on the pill for 7 weeks. And I have had the occasional bleed when having the implant in my arm probably once a year if that.

Me and my partner have decided we would like to try for a baby however my periods still haven't came, is this normal or should I be worried?

JlL28 · 08/05/2022 18:58

I'm in a similar situation, I'm hoping they return soon as we want a baby to.
I was 16 when had implant in and had when due to take them out I've always had another put back in I'm now 28. I had mine taken out on 3rd Feb then went on pill for 7 weeks.

And still no sign.

Fingers crossed for us both x

I had my implant for 4.5 years but still had periods during this time. I had it removed end of August, tracked fertility with ovulation sticks without any clear indication of ovulation but was pregnant by October. 31 weeks now, due in July. I'm going to be 37 soon.

We were pretty shocked that it was so fast but the midwives didn't seem too surprised. I would say try ovulation kits, but also have a chat with the GP to see if they have any advice. Best of luck StarStarStar

JlL28 · 08/05/2022 21:02

That's brilliant news for you all.

How often was you doing the ovulation tests? I do have some cheep ones.

I've spoken with my gp they said its low chance of me getting pregnant as not had periods.
X

dmb91 · 08/05/2022 22:46

@JlL28
My drs said it was normal not to have a period for a while and they wouldn't do tests until it had been 6 months without a period. My first period was 7 months after removal, I did eventually have blood tests and ultrasounds, nothing out of the ordinary was found. Hopefully your drs will be more helpful than mine!
Keep trying.. you have to ovulate at some point so it is entirely possible to get pregnant before your period arrives 🤞

JlL28 · 18/12/2022 21:14

Hi looking for some help and honest answers,

So hear is my story.

I had my implant taken out at the start of this year I have had in changed throughout the years I had it total of 12 years.

I never had periods when I was on the implant.

After having the implant out in January my first period was

First cycle - 13th May-5days

Second cycle - 11th August for 10 days

Third cycle - 20th September for 5 days

Fourth cycle- 25th October for 5 days.

Now my periods seem to have stopped again, I'm really confused.

Me and my parter are trying to concive and it just feels impossible with my cycle being so messed up.

dmb91 · 19/12/2022 09:40

@JlL28 don't give up!
I had my implant removed 2nd July 2021, first period 1st Feb 2022, second period 23rd April 2022, then got my BFP 20th July 2022!

Drs would only help once it had been 6 months without a period (they did an ultrasound and told me everything looked normal) or when I had been trying for a year (they gave me the forms for blood tests but they have to be done on certain days of your 'cycle' so I never managed to have them).

My advice if just to keep DTD as you never know when you may randomly ovulate and get to the drs straight away once it's been a year (or go now if you're over 35, they'll help after 6 months) to get the ball rolling on testing just to rule out any issues.

Hopefully your BFP won't be too far away! 🤞

Louisiana86 · 12/04/2023 18:40

How long did it take for your period to return?

popsypretty · 12/04/2023 18:54

I've had my implant out for a year this month, I had it in for just over 3 years. I've had pretty regular periods even since removal and I'm also tracking my ovulation with an app. Some months I don't think I do ovulate tbh because other months I get ovulation pains and it's bang on the days the app says. Does anyone else get the pains some months and not others? Still no bfp for us. Admittedly we aren't being super specific by using ovulation sticks etc but the app is pretty reliable. We tend to have most sex during the ovulation week, it's more sparse during the rest of the month. Starting to wonder if the covid vaccines have had an impact on my fertility or wether it's a problem with my partner. I have 3 children already, he doesn't have any. I'm 35 so time is ticking. At least you have youth on your side OP!
