Full Period with positive pregnancy test 7 days later

Looking for advice please….

I have regular cycles which last 4-5 days and always heavy around day 2/3/4.

I had my period on 13th March which lasted 5 days. I then had my next parent when it was due on 9th April which lasted 4 days and was heavy as normal.

I took a pregnancy test on the off chance on 17th April due to having not felt well all week and it’s positive. I’ve done a few more and they are all positive. This morning 19/04/22 I went for a wee and there was blood, more of a dark brown.

I’m confused as I had what I believed was my normal period as it was the usual heavy bright red blood.

Could this be a miscarriage??

This happened to me and it did turn out to be a miscarriage/chemical pregnancy.

How dark are the lines on your tests?

Gcm1 · 19/04/2022 10:02

@babyjellyfish oh I’m sorry to hear that.

They are clearly visible but aren’t really dark. Is there a way I can post pictures on here?

I’m not sure what to do from here, do I just wait it out and keep testing to see if the line gets fainter?

I've just been through this. Had a full bleed and then tested positive on day 7 of my period. Went to the EPU and they scanned and said pregnancy of unknown location/possible ectopic. Had my HCG bloods monitored and HCG was more than doubling, I would get in touch with your epu so they can monitor.

Gcm1 · 19/04/2022 14:32

@PeanuttyButter I’m so sorry to hear that! :(
How many weeks were you when they scanned you? I rang my GP earlier and currently waiting for the them to call me back, I’m hoping they will refer me to the early assessment unit to find out what’s going on xx

Unfortunately I had something similar and turned out to be ectopic. Keep pushing for a blood test just in case - but hoping for a good outcome!

@Chica1990 sorry to hear that! :( can I ask did they scan you to confirm it was ectopic? X

I would see if your EPU will scan you. If your last true period was 13th March you should be over 5 weeks along by now. Heavy bleeding and low rising HCG could be a sign of an ectopic so you want to get checked out. In my case I just had blood tests to monitor my HCG and it started to fall naturally and then I started bleeding, so if it was ectopic it resolved itself naturally.

Gcm1 · 19/04/2022 16:09

Well I’ve just started bleeding again so I don’t think it’s a good sign. Still waiting on my GP to call me back. Xx

@Gcm1 I had two scans, none of which picked anything up. The blood tests indicated it but it was confirmed and my effected tube was removed with a laparoscopy. I also thought I was 4 weeks along and had picked up on something wrong super early which is why they weren't concerned there was nothing on the scan initially but they said after the surgery they confirmed I would have been 8 weeks.

I was lucky and got things sorted before it became a scary emergency situation, as they can be life threatening, so I would try and get it ruled out for peace of mind.

Im also lucky in things since have worked out for me, they will for you too either way but we need to advocate for ourselves sometimes x

Sorry to say mine also ended in MC. I had a 'normal' period. Then used OPKs TTC which led me to do a pregnancy test. I MC'd at around 8 weeks. Hopefully the dr gets you referred to EPU for a scan and it isn't ectopic.

On a more positive side, my 1st month TTC after that MC I conceived and am now 26 weeks along :)

Gcm1 · 19/04/2022 17:28

@irishfarmer congratulations lovely!!
The doctors phoned and have just said ‘it can be normal during early pregnancy and to basically just carry on as normal.’ They have said to call the hospital and go to a&e if it gets worse but that is the last place I want to be xx

I miscarried at 6+1 had horrendous pain with it, but I knew something wasn't right and was just glad I kept my tube. They scanned me at 5+2 and 5+5 and said my uterus was empty and lining thin. Couldnt locate pregnancy even though HCG was more than doubling it was low. Ring the epu x

Gcm1 · 19/04/2022 17:56

I’ve had small amounts of brown watery blood today. The GP rang me back and basically said it’s normal and to go to a&e if it gets worse. I can’t find any details for my local early pregnancy unit and I don’t just want to turn up to a&e as they are always so so busy. Thinking I should maybe just see how things are tomorrow? X
