3 weeks ago I had a procedure t after I was told I'd miscarried. Im still getting positive pregnancy tests? Should this be the case? I really don't know what's happening and im getting very distressed with it all.

I had a natural mc in April 2021 and it took nearly nine weeks to get a negative test so it does happen. It's such an awful experience 🥺 so sorry you're going through this. Can you ring the EPU? I think if you're still getting a positive after three weeks they want to check you for retained product?

After a mmc at 11 weeks followed by a d&c, it took 7 weeks to have a negative test (my period returned shortly after). For my other miscarriages it was quicker (4/5 weeks). It can vary but if you're worried they can scan you to make sure everything is as it should be (that's what they did to me).

Mine took about 3 weeks after my early miscarriage (I must have been about 5 weeks max and was told at the scan - 4 days after my 2 day bleed - there was no signs of pregnancy). It’s such a frustrating process. If the positives last much longer than you were advised to expect, ask to revisit the EPU.

Sorry to hear about the miscarriage :( I have recently gone through similar.

Did you have surgical management of miscarriage? I did and I was told that if my test was still positive at 3 weeks then to call EPU. I think if it’s expectant or medical management then It can take longer.

Mine literally only went negative 2 days before the 3 weeks so was preparing myself to need another surgery!

Try not to worry too much just yet (easier said than done I know). I had surgery for a MMC and was still getting faint positives 3 weeks after. From memory epu took some more bloods to check my hcg levels and they were really low so they said just to keep an eye on things and my period returned shortly after. I must have ovulated with some hcg still in my system which apparently can happen when levels are really low. I remember the worry and the feeling of just wanting everything back to 'normal'. I was reassured that some people just take longer for hcg to leave their systems. Speak to your epu though and they might be able to check that nothing was retained after the operation. Hopefully you get some reassurance soon

I was still testing positive after 5 weeks.
Sorry for your loss Flowers

Hi, I had surgical management for a missed miscarriage 4 weeks yesterday. Was still testing positive until Tuesday. Blood tests confirmed hcg was dropping just slowly. My period arrived exactly 4 weeks after surgery. X

So sorry for your loss @Diamondbabe

I had a MMC and surgical management in Nov at 10weeks. It took a while for my hcg to come down, around a month. I got super obsessive about testing and got really upset. I was still positive at 3 weeks so called epu and spoke to a doctor. I got a negative after another week of waiting and my period came.

Just remember the test you used picks up hcg at a level of 6. Negative is consider 0-5 so given yours is super faint it’ll probably go negative really soon. Maybe by a 10mi test and I’m sure you’d get a negative with that.

If you’re worried, maybe call the early pregnancy unit, gp or the ward to get some advice. It really put my mind at rest instead of trying to work it all out myself.

Sending a big hug xx
