Just curious to see if short cycle women have shorter pregnancies. I used a due date calculator earlier (not pregnant just thinking ahead and getting myself overexcited), and it asks for cycle length. I didn’t know this was a factor?

I could be wrong but I think the reason it asks for your cycle length is to work out when you ovulated. Happy to be corrected when someone more knowledgeable arrives though

It's for ovulation 🙂

husbandcallsmepickle · 12/04/2022 19:52

All pregnancies are the same length!

Sotired22 · 12/04/2022 19:52

Yes it’s so that the calculator can predict when you likely ovulated and date the pregnancy more accurately. For example someone who has a 28 day cycle likely ovulates around day 14. I have a 35 day cycle and ovulate around day 20/21. So even if my last period started on the same day as another woman’s, my pregnancy might be a week behind hers as she ovulated earlier.

@husbandcallsmepickle

All pregnancies are the same length!
Not to the exact day obviously but approx 40 weeks!

That’s interesting. A bit of cursory googling suggests though that it is in fact true that the shorter the cycle, the shorter the pregnancy (women that go into spontaneous labour)

Do you have a link to the study please? I can't find it.

This is interesting. My cycles are short and my DD arrived at 35 weeks. I'm currently pregnant and wondering how long this bambino plans to be inside for.

CaptainWentworth · 13/04/2022 12:15

I think there is some truth to this theory- my cycle is around 28 days and I went into labour with DD1 at 39+4 and on my due date with DD2. I did also read somewhere that pregnancies are x cycles long (9? Or 10? Sorry I am sleep deprived and can’t think!) but I can’t remember where.

SirChenjins · 13/04/2022 12:18

My cycles noware usually about 31 days but at the time of conceiving DC1 they were all over the place and I had clomid - he was 1.5 weeks early. They’d settled down by DC2 (bang on due date) and DC3 (1.5 weeks late).

All pregnancies are the same length!

What?? How can they be?

My DD was born at 41 weeks. My friend's son came at 35 weeks. Another friend's baby at 26 weeks, in NICU.

fancyfrogs · 13/04/2022 23:47

My cycles were around 60 days and my pregnancy was 28 weeks 🤷🏼‍♀️
I think it's only asking that to predict ovulation and better date your pregnancy.
