3 days ago I got the best news of my life when we did a clear blue and got a positive pregnancy test. I was 12dpo and 1 day late from AF. the next day I started spotting nothing concerning as was dark blood and light.. I then had three separate occasions through the day where I wiped bright red blood. I am still spotting now( although just brown and light) my HGC levels are low I believe as despite them growing steadily on the first response ones ( even this morning I am having line progression). now being 4 days late on my period im still extremely faint on the strip tests.

the doctor has booked me in for the EPU next Wednesday I will be exactly 5 weeks and I've already told myself to come to terms with things. when would I expect the lines to stop darkening? I know its possible this is all normal but in a realistic way I just want to know either way and the fact I have 5 days now before I can grieve and process is killing me, will they be able to tell me for sure on Wednesday if the baby is viable?. sorry for such a long post

They won't be able to tell you much at 5 weeks. Most EPUs won't do a scan that early (without certain symptoms) as all you can really do is rule out ectopic. They might be able to see a pregnancy but won't be able to say if it's viable.

Are they not doing serial HCG blood tests? That would probably give you a better idea at this stage

Just wanted to send a handhold as I’ve been in your shoes and know how stressful and upsetting it is. We had an early miscarriage at 5+6 in January, I was still testing positive the day the bleeding started, albeit it the line was a smidge lighter than the previous test. I was advised to retest a week later by which point the test was very negative. They didn’t scan as they felt it was most likely a failed pregnancy (hate that phrase!) Fingers crossed you get better news x

Keeping everything crossed for you, but if it‘s not good news, be prepared for positive tests to possibly stick around for a while. I got my BFP on 5th March, had two days heavy, period-type bleeding on 9th and 10th March. I got a referral to the EPU the following week (as my tests were still positive and I was uncertain about dates as I’d not been tracking AF) and a scan showed no sign of pregnancy and my HCG bloods came back as 43 followed by 27 on 16th March. Yet I’m still getting feint positives 😩. Hopefully your story will have a better or quicker ending - my desperate Googling revealed many stories of bleeding in early pregnancy which didn’t turn out to be the end.
