Copper Coil removal and periods

Hi everyone,

I've used copper coil as form of contraception for 14 years, as I've had them for so long I can't remember what my periods were like before.

I've just had my first period since removal as we want to ttc and it only lasted 2 days. Is this normal? Will they get longer? I assume this won't affect my ovulation time as it was non hormonal?

Anyone experienced this?

Hi @JEGGLE12 - I had mine removed in Jan, didn't have a single period whilst was it was in so I worried about what my cycle would be like. Had my first period 5 weeks after the removal, lasted 3 days. Then my next was last Sunday for 4 days (although this was a chemical pregnancy so I imagine there would've been less of a gap otherwise). Hope this helps but it definitely can take a while to settle back down.

Hi, was it the hormonal IUD you had rather than the copper?

Copper should have no effect on normal periods and ovulation. When was it taken out? Is it possible you could already be pregnant?

I was pregnant with my son very quickly after removal.

The copper iud does cause inflammation which makes periods heavier and more painful so with it removed periods should be less painful and lighter but 2 days seemed very short and wondering if this is just because it was the first one. Not pregnant unfortunately.

I assume time of my ovulation won’t have changed though?

@JEGGLE12 no mine was the copper, speaking to people since it was removed everyone is surprised it completely stopped my periods! Dr assured me that was 'normal' though.. very odd. But many people have said after the copper that their periods were out of sync for a little bit then went back to normal.
